THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOULBURN
RACE 5
Quire was bred and retained by Tony Hartnell whose list of achievements include having bred Takeover Target. As for Quire, she has a nice little C.V already of four starts for a win and two seconds. Those seconds were to Master Joe and Tai Lung so there is a bit of depth there. Continuum got off to a flyer at his first run (his 48th overall) for Todd Smart when sweeping home over the top of the others to win at Wagga. Invincible Ninja should be prominent from the outset. Robert and Luke Price’s Artieos is surely good enough to medal.

RACE 6
Emancipist could easily be saved for a race at Kembla on Saturday that suits the horse every bit as well as this one. Wherever he goes, let it be known that he was flying home last start and is heading to a peak. Blagny and Chassagne are both chances to be in that Kembla race on the weekend. Taking a guess but being stablemates, perhaps one comes here? Both have trialled well enough. If this falls away - and it might - Denman Star gets elevated big time, so too Dark Vador.

Doogan’s Delight is a very interesting ‘runner’. Note the inverted commas; she could race at Bendigo instead on Sunday. The Wodonga-housed daughter of TJ Smith winner Master Of Design was nosed out by Bongo Rhythm (goes well) in a Wagga Maiden on debut. Deephar was $12 into $10 (had trialled well) before her commendable debut fourth here on June 5. Well-bred, very well drawn and hails from a super astute stable. November Rhythm whose fifth dam is the Golden Slipper winner, Century Miss, is close to a win.

Charlemagne is on a hat-trick of wins but better than that, he is in fact aiming for his third successive win at the Goulburn 1300m. The Danielle Seib-trained son of George Ryder winner Real Impact was ridden particularly well by Holly Durnan who takes 3kg off again. The wide draw is hardly panic stations given the horse’s pattern. Cool Lad was runner-up to Charlemagne here last start. Trooper Knuckle was third. Outside of that trio, a horse like Who But Roo stays under notice given his consistency.

RACE 5
Flying Pharoah is trained by Kris Lees who, it is worth noting, has a massive winning strike-rate at Coffs Harbour of 30.5 per cent which leaps to 53 per cent when placings are added. Flying Pharoah has raced six times around the place and has been good to very good in all of them. One thing about him is that he is fit and he stays. The same goes for King Cornelius who could end up getting a charmed run from box three with Cejay Graham on the saddle. His First Lady is potentially looking for the 2000m.

RACE 6
Lion Class is trained by Glen Milligan for Pine Lodge Thoroughbreds and is more or less the ‘nephew’ of his stablemates Texas Storm and Stormy Pluck. The point there is that this has been a very good family in terms of delivering winners. Lion Class has already won two himself in just eight starts. Lost Media has 61kg but it’s a pretty compressed weight scale. On top of that he is a last start winner who has drawn well. Golden Breeze was flying late in a good 58 at Port Macquarie.

RACE 7
Persian Beauty only beat a few others home first-up at Taree but she was only three and a half off the winner and 1262m is too short for her. Ross Stitt gave her a 1007m trial at home there on June 6 to bring her on and now has found her a winnable mile race. It’s up to her now. Claptone has been racing in deep races. It will be one giant accomplishment all round if he can win with the weight and the barrier. Not impossible. Paddy’s Van is ‘2131’ into this which says a lot about him at present.

RACE 8
Bonjour Rupert is a Brett Cavanough-trained gelding with a tidy C.V. The son of red-hot sire Winning Rupert has raced six times for two wins and a second and two thirds. Cavanough, just for the record, trained five winners in nine days (June 4 - 13). Apart from Bonjour Rupert’s obvious ability, barrier 5 and Andrew Gibbons are two huge pluses. Dark Euro has raced at this track and distance six times for two wins and two placings. Dollson is trained here by her breeder Donna Grisedale and loves the venue.
