GOSFORD

BEST BET

Race 5, No.1: GLACIER QUEEN

She’s got 61.5kg but deserves it in this grade. She’s a very consistent type with a lot of good form around her. She’s trialled comfortably and should produce a big run fresh.

NEXT BEST

Race 7, No.9: OAKFIELD PAPERBACK

She was doing her best work late at this track and distance first-up and has drawn better now. She can sit a touch closer and stalk them before letting rip.

VALUE BET

Race 6, No.1: AMOR VICTORIOUS

I like the improvement he’s been showing at his trials and at $10, he might be worth the gamble on debut.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 2, 6, 8

Race 6: 1, 2, 4, 5

Race 7: 4, 9, 11, 14

Race 8: 1, 2, 9, 10

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Tom Sherry has a good book with Oakfield Paperback, Fast Response and Lovero looking well placed.

TRAINER TO WATCH

Joe Pride has a very good little team entered with My Eloise a good chance in the second while Smooth Flight and Beirut Miss take each other on in the fourth and Slipstreaming is on debut in the sixth.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOSFORD

RACE 1

Monastery will head to a race on the weekend so that makes it easier for his opponents in the opener. Stablemate Chappelli will run in the race, however. The distance certainly isn’t an issue and he deserves a change of luck. Youthful ran in a good form race last start and she’ll look to have the last crack at them. Savanaci ground away to win over a mile last time and extra distance won’t hurt. Her form has been on wet ground though.

Bet: Chappelli to win

RACE 2

Shadow Legend ran third at Hawkesbury behind a horse that came out and won in town at its next start so the from is strong and he wasn’t weak on the line last time. My Eloise won well at Hawkesbury last time at her fourth career run but it was in a 4YO and Up maiden which are usually weak races. She won well though so going on with it up in grade isn’t out of the question and the market says that. Lucky Variety came from well back to win at Gosford last start off a break and she went better second-up at her first prep.

Bet: Lucky Variety to win

RACE 3

Shaka Rock got beat last start by a horse who almost won the Four Pillars and he was easily holding off the third placed horse even though the margin wasn’t great. He was a $31 chance in a four horse field that day though. Lady Superspy ran eighth of nine first-up over 1300m but is much better suited to a mile where she’s won at Wyong so the tighter tracks aren’t an issue and she ran less than three lengths off the winner first-up. Noble Cause shoots for three straight victories but has been winning on wet tracks.

Bet: Lady Superspy to win

RACE 4

You would have to think Beirut Miss has come back better and is well placed in a weak race. The fact Mr Wallace is the favourite says it’s not a strong race but he is third-up now so it’s time for him to show his best. Ovoid is obviously liking his new stable and did run on well fresh after benefiting from a strong pace in front. Closing off the way he did shouldn’t have been a surprised given the race set up. Smooth Flight will be better suited in this race from an on-speed spot.

Bet: Smooth Flight to win

RACE 5

See how Mr Wallace goes in the previous race because Lovero beat him with ease first-up at this track. That win should give her the confidence boost she needs to run well up in grade. She has a fine turn of foot. Quilting does too and might be underestimated here at $7.50 as an undefeated horse. Stablemate Morean has a good gate with Brenton Avdulla booked and her form in Victoria should stack up well. A dry track won’t hurt. Glacier Queen is super consistent and is well placed at the provincials. Her trial form is tops.

Bet: Glacier Queen to win

RACE 6

It looks like there’s plenty in the engine of Amor Victorious who was a little green in his last trial but won it in comfortable fashion and looks talented. Country Blues could start favourite off a winning barrier trial but he was ridden right out in it. It’s a good race for him though and he should be right on the speed. Fast Response went too hard early on debut and if he can find the back of one, he’ll race better. Arch Of Titus ran in town at his first prep and is well placed at this track as an on-speed type.

Bet: Amor Victorious to win

RACE 7

Oakfield Paperback really looked good late first-up at this track and I wanted to back her last week in town before she was scratched. She’s well placed here in an open race. Kissing Supido is also well placed and has had three trials so must be ready to perform. He’s a gelding now with talent but might still do things wrong. Overriding is in the market but really had to be pushed out to win a trial. Always In was comfortable in a barrier trial on this track and should race very well on debut although the gate is against her.

Bet: Oakfield Paperback to win

RACE 8

Change Is Coming bolted in a barrier trial by 10 lengths and should be returning a better horse than the one who showed promise at his first preparation. Those runs, however, were all on soft ground. Inequality got run down by an above average type at Hawkesbury last start and he was safely holding off the third placed horse. He should handle Gosford with his positive racing pattern. Just In Reach comes to the provincials at the right time with two wins from his past two starts and will be positive.

Bet: Inequality to win
