Trainer Steve Tregea his the jackpot with Mymancharles

PROTEST failure Rhyming gave Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea a good guide on the chances of Mymancharles, who landed a plonk on debut at Doomben on Wednesday.
Mymancharles was backed from $10 to $4.60 and came from well back in the run to win going away and setting up a bright future.
Stablemate Rhyming had finished a close second to Cushion Pink in the previous event at her debut, with jockey Ryan Wiggins lodging an unsuccessful objection.
“It would have been nice to get the protest but Mymancharles beat Rhyming by five lengths in a jumpout last week so it gave me a good guide of what to expect,” Tregea said.
“I don’t know about sending him to Saturday class just yet. I’ve got a rap on him, but I will probably give him more time.”
Tregea has a handy strike rate when he heads to town and punters were happy to follow the stable lead as money rolled in throughout betting.
Cushion Pink is the latest addition to Rob Heathcote’s bulging list of winners by the stallion Mossman, who is the sire of his champion sprinter Buffering and also multiple stakes winner Hopfgarten.
“I don’t keep those type of records but it would be more than 50 winners I have trained by Mossman,” Heathcote said. “After all, Buffering and Hopfgarten are by Mossman and have won 30 races between them.”
Perhaps inspired by his countryman Jeff Lloyd, Robbie Fradd was in blistering form on the opening day of the new metropolitan season, landing a treble aboard Cushion Pink, Magic I Am and Sentimental Prince.
“Maybe they should call the rest of the season off now,” Fradd joked in reference to his chances of emulating Lloyd’s premiership-winning feats this season.
In the case of Magic I Am, Fradd was the beneficiary of Lloyd’s nine-day suspension.
Trent Edmonds, representing his father Toby (who had driven to the abandoned Coffs Harbour meeting), said Lloyd recommended the tongue tie be applied to Magic I Am, who had excuses for a first up flop.
“She got her tongue over the bit and Jeff told us he thought a tongue tie would help,” Edmonds said. “We thought she could win half fit first-up and that explained why she disappointed.”
Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie believes former Victorian Kuznetsova ($1.80) has a bright future in Queensland after she saluted at her first Queensland start.
“Kuznetsova was with Mick Price and my cousin who works for Mick has a share in her. When Mick wanted to move her on, he decided to send her to me,” Currie said.
