LEADING New South Wales country trainer Brett Cavanough is on the move and has made Toowoomba his temporary training base.
Cavanough, who has horses running at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday and Toowoomba on Sunday, is making the shift from Albury to Scone.
But with Albury out of action for a renovation and his Scone boxes not yet ready until Christmas, Cavanough currently has 20 horses stabled at Toowoomba.
They include talented sprinter The Monstar who will run in a 1000m Sunshine Coast Handicap on Saturday and Just A Bullet who Cavanough is leaning towards running at Toowoomba on Sunday.
Cavanough describes The Monstar as a “prolific placegetter” but says the gelding has good talent and some form around (Stradbroke winner) Under The Louvre.
“I think the Sunshine Coast race is a perfect race for him, and if the track gets a bit wet then he will absolutely love it,” Cavanough says.
Cavanough is currently commuting between NSW and Toowoomba and believes the Darling Downs hub is a great spot to educate young horses.
“It’s been very wet down at home in NSW so it would have been hard to get my horses fit down there,” he says.
“Toowoomba has been a great spot to get some work into my horses and teach some of my young horses a thing or two before hopefully they go onto have good racing careers.”
