Stefi Magnetica dodges Tatt’s Tiara to focus on 2024 The Everest quest
Brilliant Stradbroke Handicap winner Stefi Magnetica is heading to the spelling paddock with a view to multimillion-dollar targets in the spring.
Brilliant Stradbroke Handicap winner Stefi Magnetica is heading to the spelling paddock with a view to a potential crack at the $20m The Everest in a bumper spring carnival campaign.
Racenet can reveal the dynamic Bjorn Baker-trained three-year-old sprinting filly will not contest the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara over 1400m at Eagle Farm on Saturday week (June 29).
Connections had been mulling over a Tatt’s Tiara tilt – Stefi Magnetica was the $6 second pick for the Group 1 Tiara behind Stradbroke Handicap runner-up Bella Nipotina.
But Stefi Magnetica, who gave 20-year-old jockey Zac Lloyd his first Group 1 when winning the Stradbroke carrying just 50kg, will be spelled with bigger fish to fry in the Sydney spring.

“It was a tough decision to spell her, given there is another Group 1 on the doorstep with the Tatt’s Tiara,” owner Mitch Cunningham told Racenet.
“But there are some bigger fish to fry in the spring
“There’s some high level discussions going on about The Everest and I suspect there will be more in the coming weeks.
“Given the trajectory this filly is on, and her improvement from preparation to preparation, I am sure she will be even better in spring.
“We are considering either an Everest or Golden Eagle path, we probably can’t do both with her.
“Bjorn Baker gets back from England in a week or so and we will have more discussions then.”
Stefi Magnetica, who could have imagined we would be running in a Stradbroke. Incredible journey with her so far and couldnât thank those involved enough! Wonderful people and insane that she is lining up in her 3rd G1 at only start 13.

Stefi Magnetica was one of the stories of the Queensland winter carnival.
Before arriving in Queensland from NSW, her only wins had been at country Wellington and Orange – although she showed her potential when finishing runner-up in the Group 1 Surround Stakes during the Sydney spring.
She ran a huge race when flashing home for fifth in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and then scored a stunning Stradbroke triumph last Saturday as a $15 chance after Lloyd cut the corner at Eagle Farm and zoomed home to score.
"It's an amazing feeling, she's just ran her heart out." ðð

Stefi Magnetica is owned by the Cunningham family, the Queenslanders who have had a golden year after also scoring the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January with crack colt Storm Boy.
Stefi Magnetica is currently a $26 chance in The Everest betting market on TAB. She is the same price in the Golden Eagle.
