ROB Heathcote has won the Wayne Wilson Medal for the second time, recognised for the stellar performances of star sprinter Buffering.
The Wayne Wilson Medal is named after the late, great Brisbane racecaller and is awarded annually for outstanding achievement.
It is the second time Heathcote has won the medal, which is sponsored by UBET, the Brisbane Racing Club, Trackside Photography and the Australian Trainers Association.
The medal was struck to honour and recognise the contribution Wilson made to the Queensland racing industry, in particular his enthusiasm and willingness to help trainers at all levels.
Buffering was recently named Queensland Horse of the Year for an unprecedented fifth time.
The nine-year-old was a star on the world stage last season, winning the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai, as well the Group 1 Moir Stakes in Melbourne and the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth.
Heathcote has set Buffering for another Melbourne spring campaign and the veteran galloper will have a jump-out between races at Doomben on Wednesday.
â RACING Queensland has announced new advisory panels across the three racing codes.
The industry advisory panels will meet quarterly to assist Racing Queensland in the process of formulating strategy and making decisions on industry matters.
The thoroughbred panel includes Heathcote and fellow trainers Liam Birchley and Toby Edmonds as well as breeder Basil Nolan and UBET’s Brad Tamer.
