Qld trainer Greg Wehlow disqualified for six-months after horse Island Tang’s positive meth test
QUEENSLAND trainer Greg Wehlow has been handed a six-month disqualification following a positive swab to the horse Island Tang.
RACING Queensland stewards forwarded a report to police after Mackay trainer Greg Wehlow was disqualified for six months last week following a positive swab to the horse Island Tang at Mackay last year.
Trainer Cassandra Marsh had Island Tang stabled with Wehlow leading up to the October 15 race, which the horse won, but later tested positive to amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Wehlow admitted to stewards that he had used methamphetamine in the days prior to the event and his regular contact with the gelding may have explained its positive swab.
Stewards disqualified Wehlow for six months and handed Marsh a $5000 fine, while Island Tang was disqualified from its first placing in the race.
Stewards ruled “it was possible that there was a causal link between Mr Wehlow’s admissions and the subsequent results of the Sample.”
Stewards reported they have since forwarded the documents and evidence tabled during the inquiry to the Queensland Police Service for further investigations.
