STRADBROKE Handicap markets have been shuffled after Gai Waterhouse confirmed Group 1-winning filly English will miss the Winter Carnival.
English had been as short as $6 in some Stradbroke markets, behind only Azkadellia in the betting for Queensland’s biggest race.
But the three-year-old filly, who won the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at her most recent start, is being spelled and will not come to Queensland.
“She is not injured. This (spelling English) is something I have been thinking about for some time,’’ Waterhouse told The Courier-Mail. “I will give her a good break in the spelling paddock and she will be back for the spring. I really think that is the best thing for her.’’
With English not coming to Queensland, Black Heart Bart assumes the mantle of the second favourite for the Stradbroke.
