BJORN Baker added to his winter carnival arsenal when Cadogan showed an exciting turn of foot to win over 1400m at Randwick.

Baker has been made the $2.40 favourite to win week two of the Super Six Trainers’ Challenge with his Doomben runners headed by Imposing Lass, Coolring, Miss Tenpins and Baltic Whisper.

Cadogan, a son of Smart Missile, could possibly run in Saturday week’s BRC Sires Produce before tackling the J.J. Atkins on June 11, a race in which he was a late entry.

“The way he sprinted, I was quite taken aback,” jockey Blake Shinn said.

“He did everything right in the run, settled well, and when I let him down nothing was going to catch him.’’

John O’Shea has added blinkers in an effort to coax the best out of Doomben Cup favourite Hauraki on Saturday.

“He deserves a G1 against his name. He ran very well last start, he had to make a very long run and it just told a bit at the end,” O’Shea said. “He’s drawn ideally this time and we’ll put the blinkers on just to help him focus better.’’

O’Shea is a $4 chance to win week two of the Trainers’ Challenge and has a strong hand, with It’s Somewhat a capable Doomben Cup back-up. Dual Oaks placegetter Ambience is also a leading hope in the Doomben Roses.

“She looks better after being at the farm for a few weeks, she seems very happy and she has enough residual fitness to run well,” O’Shea said.
