BEST Case was given a schooling over jumps last week before staging a form reversal at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Best Case disappointed seven days earlier when beating just one runner home at Doomben, but despite stepping up in grade he rounded up all his rivals to land a handy betting move ($13-$9.50).

“He’s a little bludger,” trainer Steven O’Dea said. “His first-up run was good then he hated the heavy second up before he just didn’t put in last week.

“So I sent him out to Aquis Farm through the week and put him over a few jumps. I gave him a dash up (Saturday) morning and it’s really switched him on. He’s been out of the winning list for a while (644 days) so we needed to get his mind on the job and it’s done the trick.”

An emotional Kim Craft had an ecstatic team of owners by her side when Beloso made the transition to Saturday grade in winning the 3YO.

“When I put the syndicate of girls together we were hoping to make it to the Magic Millions. That didn’t work out, but we’re here now,” Craft said.

Glen Colless extracted everything out of Beloso to score a narrow win. He returned to scale very distressed and took some time to reach the scales.

He was later stood down for the remainder of the meeting.

“It was probably just the combination of having not ridden for two weeks and having to get down to 54kg,” Colless said later.

Hopes Skye high after Monstar crushes rivals

SKYE Bogenhuber made the most of a rare trip to town when guiding The Monstar home in the Open Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Bogenhuber has linked up with trainer Brett Cavanough, who has set up his team temporarily in Toowoomba to avoid the big wet down south.

Cavanough hopes to have a new Scone stable up and running by May next year, with the likelihood of 40 horses in work.

In the meantime, he is contemplating stretching The Monstar beyond 1200m after he was strong at the end on Saturday.

Bogenhuber indicated she is keen to branch out from being pigeonholed as a Toowoomba jockey. “I would love to be able to ride here (in the city) more often if the opportunities are there,” she said.

Bogenhuber rang Cavanough after learning of his Toowoomba move and the pair have struck up a successful association. “He’s a champion bloke and a champion trainer,” she said.

The Monstar was officially $4.40 throughout betting, but crunched to $2.90 on the tote.
