Tralee Rose to stay in Werribee vet clinic for a second night after Melbourne Cup injury
Vets kept Tralee Rose at a Werribee veterinary clinic for a second night as she recovers from a laceration suffered in the Melbourne Cup.
Brave mare Tralee Rose will stay at a Werribee veterinary clinic for another night as she recovers from being galloped on in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
Tralee Rose managed to finish in the first half of the field in the Melbourne Cup despite sustaining a laceration to a hind leg in the event.
Trainer Symon Wilde took Tralee Rose to the University of Melbourne veterinary clinic straight after the Melbourne Cup to have the mare assessed by some of the state top equine vets.
Wilde was relieved to learn the laceration was Tralee Rose’s only injury with the wound not causing any structural damage.
Vets inserted stitches into Tralee Rose’s laceration before giving the mare antibiotics to prevent the chance of infection.
Tralee Rose stayed a second night at Werribee as a precaution but Wilde expects to take the mare back to his Warrnambool stable on Thursday.
The five-year-old will spend a couple of weeks in his stable where vets can monitor her condition daily before heading to a spelling paddock once her injury has sufficiently healed.
