From bashing victim to beautiful bride.

Darwin jockey Sonja Logan (née Wiseman) has been to hell and back in recent times.

But the horror of being savagely bashed by a group of men and smashed in the face by a rock as she sat in her car outside her Darwin home was the furthest thing from her mind on her wedding day in Brisbane on Saturday.

Three weeks earlier she feared she was going to die as she suffered an open fracture of her nose, had two of her teeth knocked out and sustained other facial injuries in a horrific assault.

The terror was replaced by joyful wedding bliss on Saturday as the 31-year-old got hitched to her Prince Charming, Darwin trainer Tommy Logan.

“It was the best day of my life on Saturday, 110 percent it was, it was absolutely amazing,” Logan told Racenet.

“It was great on the wedding day as I didn’t really think about anything else that’s been happening, I just thought about getting married.

“I could not have wished for a better day.”

Logan, who had her Stepdad walk her down the aisle, looks a picture of happiness in the wedding photos.

She quips the makeup artist was forced to work overtime around her nose region.

“With the open fracture of my nose, even though it was stitched up and healed, it is still quite an open scar,” Logan said.

“My nose is still a bit lumpy.

“She covered that with makeup, but it still probably started to show a bit by the end of the day.”

Logan, who bravely returned to ride in the Darwin Cup carnival despite nursing both physical and mental wounds, is currently honeymooning in beachside Noosa.

Not only is it a magical honeymoon, but it’s another step in the healing process.

“When I was at home in Darwin, I was struggling to sleep at night,” Logan said.

“In Noosa, I can sleep, I feel like that takes some of the emotion out of everything that’s happened.

“It’s allowing my body and my mind the time to catch up with everything.

“I think sleep is a big thing when it comes to trauma.”

Darwin Police have so far not been able to make any arrests over the shocking attack on Logan.

Logan will continue to talk to police as they try to catch the perpetrators.

She also plans to get straight back to riding soon after returning to Darwin from her honeymoon.

“The police phoned me the day before the wedding and said they hadn’t been able to get any fingerprints off the car,” Logan said.

“They have now asked me to come and see a sketch artist to try to draw what I remember of the men who were involved.

“I do remember seeing the ones that caused the most drama, but it’s hard to put faces to them because I was in so much of a panic while I was being attacked.

“All I could really focus on was my own heartbeat.”
