One time Melbourne Cup hopeful Relentless Voyager to step out for first Australian start in the rich Five Diamonds
Australian Bloodstock’s most recent European addition Relentless Voyager will make his local debut in the $2m Five Diamonds at Rosehill on Saturday.
Relentless Voyager, the promising import barred from a Melbourne Cup bid, is a chance to claim a cashed up consolation prize in Saturday’s $2 million Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Australian Bloodstock’s latest European talent was failed by Racing Victoria vets prior to coming to Australia and was unable to participate in the state’s carnival.
But his new connections and trainer Ciaron Maher have the green light to make a splash late in Sydney’s Spring Carnival.
Relentless Voyager was poised to make his Australian debut last week in the Group 3 Rosehill Gold Cup but an untimely abscess meant the son of Ulysses was saved until another day.
FIELDS AND FORM ROSEHILL SATURDAY
Australian Bloodstock’s Jamie Lovett said they are willing to take a patient approach with Relentless Voyager and won’t risk him at the races if he’s not 100 per cent.

Relentless Voyager has been monitored closely over the past week and his work has been “faultless”.
“Other than the foot abscess developing last week, everything has gone great at Newmarket and here,” Lovett said.
“You look at the form out of the Ebor and then those couple of horses winning at Geelong (Onesmoothoperator) and Bendigo (Sea King), the form lines have stood up and he looks a lovely horse for next season.
“But I would love to get a run into him at this time of year to find out where he fits in distance wise.
“Had he run last week we would have been looking at the Beauford or possibly getting an idea where he fits fitness wise but you are sort of guessing a bit with them.”
There are options to run Relentless Voyager in Sydney’s Summer Cups with a preference to give the gelding a start or two this preparation.
The 1800m of the Five Diamonds is short of his best form throughout Europe in more recent times.
Bookies rate Relentless Voyager as a $17 chance in his first Australian start with Jay Ford in the saddle.
