Winx’s $10 million filly, Quinceañera, won’t make her race debut during the Sydney autumn carnival.

Trainer Chris Waller had the two-year-old filly in work at his Rosehill stables but after a slight setback she has been sent to the spelling paddock.

Owner-breeder Debbie Kepitis said no risks were being taken with Quinceañera and the filly would not be rushed to the races until she was ready.

“She’s been in the stables, she had a nice stint and was doing everything right,’’ Kepitis said.

“But she got a temperature last week and because it was almost time to give her a break anyway, we decided to spell her.

“So, she has gone out for a spell and will come back later in the season.’’

Quinceañera is the first live foal out of all-time great Winx, winner of 37 of her 43 starts including her final 33 races with a world record 25 wins at Group 1 level.

Winx didn’t start her race career until June of her two-year-old season when she won at the Warwick Farm midweeks and there is a likelihood Quinceañera won’t get to the races until the latter part of her juvenile season, too.

Quinceañera created headlines around the racing world last year when Kepitis went to $10 million to buy back the filly at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The two-year-old filly’s unusual name – pronounced “Kin-cea-neara” – is derived from a Latin American tradition and a famous animated television series.

Quinceañera: The story behind $10m Winx filly’s name

Kepitis took to social media to explain that Quinceañera’s name is a “Latin American celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday, marking her passages from girlhood to womanhood, this young lady is stepping out of the shadow of her mum, Winx.’’

She also revealed that in the “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” animated television series, a “cute-ceanera” is a celebration for ponies who have earned their “cutie marks” or a unique symbol that is on one or both sides of their flanks.

On the eve of the first Group 1 meeting in Sydney this year, it is a decade to the day since Winx contested the Surround Stakes, finishing only fifth to First Seal.

After her Surround Stakes loss, Winx won the Phar Lap Stakes then was beaten in the Vinery Stud Stakes (fifth) and ATC Australian Oaks (second) before winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas to start her famous 33-race winning streak.

In the Surround Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday, the Waller-trained Amelita’s jockey Reece Jones will be wearing the famous Winx colours of dark blue, white “M”, epaulettes and pompom that are registered to Peter and Patty Tighe, part-owners of Winx.

Winx gave birth to a colt by Arrowfield Stud’s super sire Snitzel last November.
