Vein Girl proves too quick for her rivals in Magic Millions The Debut

Father-son duo Chris and Corey Munce will chase next month’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic with impressive filly Vein Girl after her win on Friday night.

Corey Munce will get the chance to etch his name into the Magic Millions record books just like his legendary father Chris Munce after the pair took out the Magic Millions The Debut at the Gold Coast’s first night meeting on Friday.

The father and son training duo locked in a start in the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in three weeks time after their filly Vein Girl scorched the turf in the $250,00 feature to hold out a charging Torque To Be Sure for rival trainer Matt Dunn.

Chris Munce won three Magic Millions 2YO Classics as a jockey, dating back to 1989 when he won as an apprentice aboard Sunblazer.

Now Corey is looking to follow in his footsteps in his first year as a trainer.

“It’s only my first year as a trainer, so I am absolutely thrilled with tonight, I don’t want to be getting ahead of ourselves, so we will enjoy tonight and see where we end up,” Corey Munce said.

“If we can get to the race on Magic Millions day, it would mean so much to me

“She has always showed us really good speed, so we didn’t want to give that up tonight after drawing a good alley.

“She is a very smart horse, we don’t think she has to be ridden that way every time either.”

With all female ownership, Vein Girl is eligible for the lucrative $500,000 women in racing bonus on Magic Millions day.

Jockey Cejay Graham will look to make it an all-female affair, putting her hand up for the ride after putting in a faultless performance on Friday night.

Torque To Be Sure put himself on the cusp of getting a start on Magic Millions day, collecting $45,000 for finishing second after a luckless run in the back of the field.

The Gold Coast Turf Club enjoyed a bumper crowd for the meeting, where they will look to make Friday night racing the centerpiece of their product after the installation of state of the art lights.
