‘The horse is flying’: Amenable chasing big pay days, starting with Group 3 Bill Ritchie Stakes at Randwick on Saturday

Trainer Michael Kent Jnr is convinced Amenable is going as good as he’s ever gone ahead of his return in Saturday’s Group 3 $250,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Trainer Michael Kent Jnr is convinced Amenable is going as good as he’s ever gone ahead of his return in Saturday’s Group 3 $250,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Amenable was runner up in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes during Sydney’s autumn and is back in Sydney to target a string of big money races in the coming months.

“The horse is flying,” Kent Jnr, who trains with Mick Price, said.

“We’re rapt with him. He has always been an immature horse and he looks to have improved again, even turning five.

“He has always been a horse that never carried a lot of condition but he couldn’t have looked better and his trial was very slick last week.

“He is going to run well and he is there to run well from a good draw (barrier two).”

Amenable, a $6.50 chance, holds an Epsom Handicap nomination but Kent Jnr said it was not at the top of the stable’s wishlist for the classy campaigner.

The $1.5 million Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) a week later is a higher priority.

“We’ve trained him with a plan to be peaking at the end of the spring so he’s got a bit to come,” Kent Jnr said.

“You original plan was to go to the Alan Brown and then step him up to a Five Diamonds Prelude third-up and decide from there.”

Price and Kent Jnr are operating with a small base at Rosehill and have enjoyed plenty of success in recent times with Golden Path.

The son of Belardo has won his past three starts in Sydney and faces his toughest test to date in the Group 3 $250,000 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m).

Golden Path is a $6 chance with Chad Schofield aboard.

“Golden Path has loved it there at Rosehill, he’s really thrived,” Kent Jnr said.

“He will be six weeks between runs there on Saturday and drawn wide so we are going to ride him to finish off.

“Ultimately it will be up to Chad (Schofield) out of the gates but we will use this to bounce him into the Hill Stakes.”
