Shane Dye compares Ka Ying Rising to Black Caviar and Silent Witness ahead of Hong Kong Sprint coronation
Shane Dye says David Hayes’ spruik sprinter Ka Ying Rising can reach the enormous heights of Black Caviar if he continues on his rapid trajectory in Sunday’s Hong Kong Sprint.
Legendary jockey Shane Dye has declared spruik sprinter Ka Ying Rising “in the same class” as the infallible Black Caviar ahead of his date with destiny in Sunday’s Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin.
Dye, who enjoyed a golden career in the saddle around the world, including Hong Kong, says the David Hayes-trained sprinter is entering rare air and has the potential to be better than Black Caviar, despite tasting defeat twice in his 10-start career already.
“He can’t get beaten (in the Hong Kong Sprint),” Dye declared.
“He is as good as you will see.

“I rate Silent Witness and Black Caviar as the best sprinters I have seen, but this horse could go on top of them.”
With Sunday’s prestigious Hong Kong Sprint his first race at Group 1 level, Dye concedes Ka Ying Rising “still has to do it”, but says he has laid all the markers of a once-in-a-generation horse.
“The thing is that he still has to do it,” Dye said.
“He can make two runs in a sprint, he stays out of trouble and he hasn’t been let go yet.
“There is nothing close to his class in Australia, we are talking Black Caviar and Vain class.
“I never saw Vain, he was before my time, but all the good judges who have seen them all have him ahead of Black Caviar.

“This horse is Black Caviar, Silent Witness-type class, but now it is on him to go and do it.”
He is rated a $1.25 chance with fixed-odds bookmakers after lowering the 14-year-old track record over 1200m in his last start.
Meanwhile, Dye says Antino’s Group 1 Hong Kong Mile hopes will rest mostly on what version of the Japanese raiders show up to Sha Tin.
The master jockey says Antino’s spring form is good enough to stack up in the $7m (AUD) feature for jockey Blake Shinn.
“The question is how good the Japanese horses are,” Dye said.
“The Australian spring form should stack up.
“Golden Sixty was a superstar up there, so whoever wins the Mile up there in Hong Kong is a very good horse, it has always been that way.
“The Hong Kong horses like Voyage Bubble and Galaxy Patch, they are as good as anything in Australia, if not better, except for Via Sistina.
“Antino was racing very well here in Australia and the pace should be on for him, that will suit him and he will have his chance.”
Antino is a $5.50 second favourite for the race behind Japanese raider Soul Rush, which is $4.40.
Leading Hong Kong chances Voyage Bubble and Galaxy Patch are both $6.
