Rich pickings for trainer Michael Freedman in Up and Coming Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday

Trainer Michael Freedman is confident inexperience won’t stop Enriched running a competitive race in the Group 3 $250,000 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Trainer Michael Freedman is confident inexperience won’t stop Enriched running a competitive race in the Group 3 $250,000 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Enriched, a close relation to the champion mare Winx, has only had two starts, breaking his maiden when making his three-year-old debut at Warwick Farm two weeks ago.

Enriched by Winx: Collett makes winning a family affair

“I thought he did a good job to win first-up,” Freedman said.

“His preparation had been delayed a week because of wet tracks earlier in the month so he has taken a lot of improvement from his Warwick Farm win.

“He’s a nice colt with a great pedigree and he’s trained on well. It’s a big jump in grade for him but he’s a progressive young horse and deserves his chance.”

Enriched is at $13 in latest fixed odds markets behind unbeaten filly Autumn Glow ($4 favourite), a dominant winner of her only start earlier this month.

Freedman, who prepared a brace of wins with promising Seascape and the in-form Flying Destiny at the Canterbury midweeks, has Group 1 winner Communist contesting the Bankstown Sports Handicap (1500m).

Communist hasn’t won or even managed to place in nine starts since beating Lindermann in the Randwick Guineas last year but the five-year-old was been gelded before resuming when ninth to Tom Kitten at Rosehill two weeks ago.

“When you analyse the run, Communist’s sectionals were quite good,” Freedman said.

“His run was a pass mark and now he is up to 1500m, it should suit him more. We will know a lot more about him after Saturday.”

Moravia ran second in the San Domenico Stakes at this meeting last year but he has struggled to regain that form since and was also gelded before his four-year-old season.

His two barrier trial efforts have been very impressive in recent weeks and is set to resume in the Mounties Group Handicap (1200m) – although the gelding’s horror barrier (19) might force Freedman to have a rethink.

“Moravia is obviously a horse with plenty of raw ability but he has still only won one race,” Freedman said.

“He’s trialling well and now I want to see him do it on raceday but all the signs are he’s in for a good preparation.”

Blanc De Blanc is a dual acceptor on Saturday with Freedman entering the mare for the Moravia race and also in the closer, the ClubsNSW Handicap (1100m).
