ONE TO FOLLOW
High Mist again demonstrated his emerging staying talent with a fast-finishing second to Golden Organic in the juvenile 1500m race. High Mist still does a few things wrong in his races but he was strong late after covering a lot of extra ground. This was another Sydney Saturday two-year-old race where the form looks well above average as has been the case right through the winter.
FORGET THEY RAN
McCreery was on the quick back-up and dropping back from 1550m to 1350m so it might pay to forgive his lack lustre effort to finish fifth. He is a better horse than his three winter runs indicate. In the fillies races, Rock On Zariz (third), Meri Rani (fourth) and Labdien (seventh) all raced without luck behind the promising Interstellar.
THE BLACK BOOK
Ruling Dynasty is a talented stayer on the comeback trail and his effort to close late for third to Marenostro in the Winter Challenge over 1500m was outstanding. When Ruling Dynasty gets out to 2000m and beyond he will really come into his own. Esteban and Super Tycoon just keep winning and although their winter campaigns are coming to an end, both horses have shown promise to suggest they can win better races in the new season.
RIDE OF THE DAY
Tye Angland was tactically brilliant on Marenostro in the Winter Challenge. Angland wanted to make the race a testing 1500m so favourite Oxford Poet would not get an easy lead so he had Marenostro parked outside his rival before the 600m. It was a winning more with Marenostro wearing down Oxford Poet after a stirring struggle. Glyn Schofield (Super Tycoon) and Hugh Bowman (Pioneering) were also outstanding rides.
