Prolific Metropolitan winning trainers Chris Waller and Gai Waterhouse hold 10 of the 22 acceptors in this year’s $750,000 Group 1 Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday.

The 2400m handicap contest has been won by Waterhouse on nine occasions while Waller is chasing his sixth success in the race this year.

Waller has won three of the last six Metropolitans and this year he has five of the 18 runners in the field and three of the four emergencies.

Meanwhile, Waterhouse, who won the race last year with her training partner Adrian Bott and Just Fine, has two starters on Saturday.

Ciaron Maher also has multiple acceptors as does Newcastle trainer Kris Lees.

It should be noted 11 of the 22 acceptors also hold entries for Saturday’s Melbourne Cup qualifier at Flemington – the Group 3 Bart Cummings (2500m).

The field for the Bart Cummings will be declared on Wednesday and Metropolitan acceptors that remain in the Flemington entries are – Kalapour, Que Tempesta, Athabascan, Trust In You, El Bodegon, Future History, Etna Rosso, Land Legend, Manzoice, Berkshire Breeze and Matusalem.
