OUR experts give you an early shot at finding that elusive midweek winner as they look at the major cards around the nation.

Wednesday meetings: BENDIGO (10 races, starts 12pm), CANTERBURY (7 races, starts 1.55pm), IPSWICH (6 races, starts 2.38pm), MOUNT GAMBIER (8 races, starts 1.08pm), ASCOT (8 races, starts 4.14pm). All times AEDT.

CANTERBURY

NIC ASHMAN (The Daily Telegraph)

ANOTHER AL

Race 6, No. 4

Gets along in his races and with the rail out 8m should get a few favours. They’ve put up big odds about a horse that had no luck first-up. His trackwork has been solid and he’s definitely worth an each-way gamble.

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (The Daily Telegraph)

TORGERSEN

Race 3, No. 2

This lightly-raced colt by Pins battled on OK at Warwick Farm over 1300m on October 5, then was too good over the same course and distance on October 21. Covered plenty of ground last time but still proved too strong. Looks like he will appreciate the 1580m here and can rack up another win for the all-conquering Chris Waller camp.

JOHN DAVIS (The Daily Telegraph)

POUNAMU

Race 1, No. 2

Should be close to peak fitness following two sound provincial efforts and importantly has been placed in heavy and soft ground. Rates highly.

BENDIGO

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)

GENERAL JAMES

Race 10, No. 6

Ran on impressively to win at Cranbourne last start in a race which subsequent Moonee Valley winner Lucky Paddy finished third.

MOUNT GAMBIER

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser)

AUTUMN SUNSET

Race 2, No. 5

Honest mare from the strong Michael O’Leary stable who looked good when resumed with sharp win over Miss Joolia on this track late last month. Has great record on the course with five wins from six starts and sure to figure in the finish with 2kg claim for apprentice Emily Finnegan.
