RANDWICK: G1 FIELDS + ANALYSIS
WYONG
NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph)
STRINDBERG
Race 5, No. 3
Drops back from Saturday grade and his win three starts back was top shelf against a good horse. Likes the sting out and set to atone.
SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman)
FURNACES
Race 6, No. 2
If ever the expression ‘forgive and forget’ applies to a horse, it’s Furnaces and his inglorious last in the Fireball. He folded up like card table that day but as it turned it with good reason, he pretty much choked down. Furnaces trialled in a tongue tie at Rosehill nine days after the Fireball and was his old self; gosh, he looked good. No prizes for guessing that he’ll wear a ‘TT’ first time here. Honestly, he should just beat them
BENDIGO
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)
COMEBACK
Race 3, No. 2
Five seconds from five starts at this track and has only had seven starts in his career. Step up to 1400m will suit. This looks his chance.
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)
GILAGO
Race 5, No. 1
Has her fair share of weight here but gets out to a suitable distance range following her solid placing at Pakenham on Saint Patrick’s Day over a mile. Tough nut to crack.
IPSWICH
BEN DORRIES (The Courier-Mail)
HAZARD BAY
Race 4, No. 2
Always shown ability but was a one-time nutjob who used to throw riders off and do just about everything wrong. Racing manners have now improved and a soft win on the Sunshine Coast last start would have done the world of good. Can go on with it here and finally start to bridge the gap between potential and performance.
STRATHALBYN
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser)
AWARD OF MERIT
Race 7, No. 1
Former talented youngster who was a Balaklava winner on debut in 2014 before stepping up in class chasing home Shooting To Win in the Stan Fox Stakes at Rosehill. Fitter for one run back from 12 months off when runner-up at Mildura and he looks the horse to beat.
