OUR experts give you an early shot at finding that elusive midweek winner as they look at the major cards around the nation.

Wednesday meetings: WARWICK FARM (7 races, starts 1.45pm), BALLARAT (8 races, starts 1pm), DOOMBEN (8 races, starts 1.23pm), BALAKLAVA (8 races, starts 1.38pm), PINJARRA PARK (9 races, starts 3.05pm). All times AEDT.

WARWICK FARM

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph)

ROCKOLICIOUS (Race 6, No. 2)

Tough ask when going to the 1400m first-up and she was there until the final 250m, which was expected. Second-up here back to 1300m and a decent drop in grade should make her tough to beat. Only query is whether her early speed is dulled slightly from going to the 1400m fresh.

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph)

BUTTERBOOM

Race 5, No. 1

Joe Pride has this mare in top form at present, indicated by her game half neck win over 1200m at Warwick Farm on March 28. Down 1kg here after the claim for apprentice James Innes Jnr and has drawn beautifully in gate one. Hard to hold out again.

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)

MONTIGNAC

Race 2, No. 5

Was responsible for an excellent effort when finishing third to the promising stayer Falkenberg here on Easter Monday, over an identical trip. Hasn’t taken a backward step this prep and looks the testing material once again.

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman)

I CAN ROCK

Race 7, No. 5

Has run 8th of 9 and 7 of 7 in his two trials but don’t think they were poor; in fact, they were both very good. I am pretty sure he is going to get back but equally sure that Tim

Clark is going to push the button on the horse rounding the bend and so long as he’s not giving away maybe more than 5 of 6-lens at that point, I reckon he’ll mow them down at juicy odds.

BALLARAT

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)

SERENADE

Race 5, No. 3

Group 3 placegetter second-up last spring who resumed with sound fifth behind Petits Filous at Caulfield which reads well for this.

BALAKLAVA

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser)

BEAU ACRE

Race 7, No. 3

Kangaroo Island-trained six-year-old who has shown plenty in his three starts since debuting at Oakbank last month. Gave away a big start and made plenty of ground behind Award Of Merit two starts back and was again finishing off strongly at Gawler last time when the race was all over behind Almahstique. The drop in distance isn’t ideal but expect him to be running on strongly at the business end.
