OUR experts give you an early shot at finding that elusive midweek winner as they look at the major cards around the nation.

Wednesday meetings: WARWICK FARM (7 races, starts 1.55pm), GEELONG (9 races, starts 12.30pm), IPSWICH (8 races, starts 1.28pm), BALAKLAVA (8 races, starts 1.08pm), ASCOT (10 races, starts 3pm). All times AEDT.

WARWICK FARM

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph)

THYME FOR ROSES

Race 1, No. 6

Trialled like a bomb and only has to replicate that here to be winning.

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph)

THYME FOR ROSES

Race 1, No. 6

It’s not often we make the best bet on the program an unraced two-year-old but the reports about this filly are most impressive. She quickly led and raced clear for an exciting barrier trial win at Randwick on October 13. Her work since suggests she can win repeat the dose on race day for the Gai Waterhouse yard.

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)

LAYO LAYO

Race 6, No. 10

Has been slightly freshened after flopping badly at Scone but is locally trained and gets blinker for the first time today, in this all female affair. Has definite each-way appeal at her inflated overnight quote of $26.

SHAYNE O’CASS (The Sportsman)

FITOU

Race 5, No. 7

has come back well. Very well. Sure she had a few favours when beating Figtree and her pretty talented stablemate Painted Firetail (who was badly held-up) that day at Kembla when she resumed but in hindsight, I am starting to think she might have beaten them fair and square. Reason? Go and have a look at her second-up run at Rosehill at that midweek meeting where she launched herself down the crown of the track to finish 0.7-lens 4th in the 1350m Bm70. Third-up, at home she gets to the mile now and you would expect her pattern and breeding will see her through.

GEELONG

ROD NICHOLSON (Herald Sun)

NORTHROZA

Race 8, No. 12

Smart mare who won a recent Cranbourne trial and is flying on the track. Wide barrier the only concern but has a touch of class.

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)

ZANTECA

Race 3, No. 5

Should now be ready. Ran on strongly when just missed in the Pinker Pinker Plate. Step up to 2400m ideal.

BALAKLAVA

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser)

SOVEREIGN DUKE

Race 8, No. 1

Chased home Rich Enuff in Melbourne as a three-year-old and strips fitter for two runs back from more than a year on the sidelines. Boxed on well against some progressive types in town last time and gets his chance to bounce back to winning form here.
