The Kosciuszko winner Far Too Easy won’t be seen in Queensland during the Magic Millions carnival as his trainer David McColm looks to get to the bottom of his last-start flop in The Hunter at Newcastle.

Coming off the performance of his career in The Kosciuszko, Far Too Easy turned in one of the worst of his career last week, with McColm saying vets would go over him with a fine tooth comb to work out what happened.

The six-year-old has survived deadly floods and near-death illnesses, giving McColm reason to err on the side of caution with his stable star, who will head for an extended break, before his next move is mapped out.

“It was a pretty disappointing run,” McColm said.

“He seems to be fine, so we will take him home, get some bloods done and he will go for a break.

“We will work it out in six weeks or so and see how he is going.

“It wasn’t a familiar run for him, so we will make sure everything is OK with him.

“He was a bit distressed after the run for some reason, I’m not too sure what has gone on, but the vets went over him and couldn’t find anything.”

Far Too Easy was one of the fancies for the famed Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap prior to the winter this year before he was struck down by acute colitis, which almost claimed his life.

McColm had conceded he thought he was going to lose his pin-up horse at the time, however he remarkably recovered to come back and win The Kosciuszko at his third attempt.

Far Too Easy ran fourth in the 2022 Magic Millions Guineas and in the 2024 Magic Millions Cup, however he will not be seen for a third time at the lucrative day in January next year.

“It has been a long prep getting him back,” McColm said.

“Summer is all out, Magic Millions would have been nice but we just can’t go there off that run.”
