MUSWELLBROOK INSIDE MAIL

RACE 4: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1280m)
YOU WAHNG (14) is a Kris Lees-trained daughter of his own former handy mare Wahng Wah who was herself a multiple Sydney-metropolitan winner and a Dancing Show direct-descendant. This So You Think filly turned in a fantastic six-lengths trial win at Scone on August 21. MOUGENOT (5) is an I Am Invincible colt for the Maher stable who looks ready and able to win off the back of a couple of encouraging trials. HANOVERIAN (2) could be the strong one late.
BET: You Wahng to win, Hanoverian to place.

RACE 5: BENCHMARK 58 (1280m)
SMART SHOT (1) was $4.20 into $3.40 in a Class 1 at home at Tamworth on August 16 but won like an odds-on pop. There was so much merit to the win, starting with the fact that he drew 14 of 14. Can keep progressing. PROUD WITH PRIDE (2) should be able to take up a fairly prominent position in a race where she boasts the highest Benchmark rating – and that has to count for something. CHESTERAY (8) and CHESTIME (5) are in the mix but there are others.
BET: Smart Shot to win, Daily Double 1st Leg (1), 2nd leg (13).

RACE 6: BENCHMARK 66 (1000m)
RUNRANIRAN (9) was $2.50 out to $3.20 when she made her debut in a Newcastle Super Maiden on August 15. She led, then led by some more, and crossed the line almost nine-lengths ahead of the rest. It was a Heavy 9 and we are likely on a Good 4 this time but hard to tip against her. SIXSPEED (3) won three out of four at his last preparation. Market watch advised. TELEGRAPH (5) won a Benchmark 66 first-up at Taree with Luke Rolls in the saddle. Underrated type.
BET: Runraniran to win, box trifecta 3,5,7,9.

RACE 7: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000m)
SEE THE SAINT (13) was $5/$6 when he won his first and so far only start back on March 16 at Kempsey. He didn’t win by far but he gets marked ‘up’ for his grit and determination. The Jeremy Sylvester-trained gelding was very good indeed when runner-up in an 1100m trial at Scone on August 21. Speaking of grit and determination, SAVOLDI (4) showed plenty of both when he fended off Toyager in that Newcastle 900m Maiden (in fast time) on debut.
BET: See The Saint to win, quinella 4,13.

QUEANBEYAN TIPS

BEST BET
Race 2 No.3 MY LAST HOORAY
Frank Cleary trained gelding who finds the perfect race to resume in.

NEXT BEST
Race 3 No.2 MOOSHAKA
Has won over this same track and distance and drew barrier one that time as well.

VALUE
Race 5 No.5 JUKEBOX MONEY
Remains winless in 18 starts but is often thereabouts.

RACE 4: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (900m)
GETTY (1) is not, it seems, a guaranteed starter which would open the race up quite considerably. Just in case he does show, don’t judge him too harshly on his first-up seventh, it wasn’t actually too bad. SNIPPETY STAR (2) is an ultra-consistent mare. She was ‘23314’ last preparation from 1000m to 1400m. Could/should sprint well fresh and has the favourable alley. Can’t say the same for MISS BELGIUM (5) whose ‘best’ would probably be good enough to medal here.
BET: Getty to win or if scratched Snippety Star to win.

RACE 5: MAIDEN PLATE (1460m)
JUKEBOX MONEY (5) is a cleverly-named son of Shack. He is a seven-year-old who is yet to win on 18 starts but he is invariably thereabouts. He turned in a very respectable third at Moruya last start. He is third-up for this and it is not the strongest Maiden he has run in. LOST YA SOCK (11) has done some good things in her short career. As mentioned, this Maiden is there for the one with the most talent or whoever gets the best run. DRESSEL (4) has the home track advantage.
BET: Jukebox Money each-way, quinella 5,11, box trifecta 4,5,8,11.

RACE 6: BENCHMARK 58 (1460m)
SOOBOOGELICIOUS (6) is a Nick Olive-trained local who has three wins and five placings from 17 starts. On top of that, the son of Sooboog is one for one at the same track and distance. Barrier 2 is a huge plus and he is coming off a pretty easy first-up win at Dubbo. ALMOST PERSUADED (3) likewise has some compelling numbers; in fact she is also one for one at the Queanbeyan 1400m. Bad draw but she is in great form and gets 3kgs off after the claim.
BET: Sooboogelicous to win, quinella 3,6.

RACE 7: CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200m)
DEVGRU (8) is an interesting horse. He was sold as a yearling for $150,000 in 2021. Fast forward to March 2024 and his current trainer/owner John Borham picked him up for $600 online. His runs since have been ‘3422431’. The son of Merchant Navy is trained here and was a last start 1460m Queanbeyan winner albeit back on July 19. TAVOLO (3) is a reliable type. That much is evident in her record of seven starts for two wins, three seconds and a third. Best of all, she has a good little first-up record. PRETTY VEGAS (2) has a good draw and is trained here too.
BET: Devgru to win.
