2025 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale: Close relations to TJ Smith Stakes contenders Switzerland, Sunshine In Paris to go under the hammer

The most important thoroughbred auction in the southern hemisphere starts on Sunday, with close relations to TJ Smith Stakes contenders Switzerland, Sunshine In Paris and I Am Me to go under the hammer.

The stellar sprint showdown between Switzerland, Sunshine In Paris and I Am Me for the Group 1 $3 million TJ Smith Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday could spill over to the auction ring at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The most important thoroughbred auction in the southern hemisphere starts on Sunday and finishes the following day with 421 of the best-bred yearlings on offer including a full-brother to Switzerland and half-brothers to Sunshine In Paris and I Am Me.

Switzerland’s yearling full-brother is by super sire Snitzel out of Ms Bad Behaviour and is widely tipped to be one of the sale-toppers when he goes through the ring on Sunday at Inglis’ Riverside complex on Warwick Farm racecourse.

When Switzerland was sold at Easter two years ago, he fetched $1.5 million. The three-year-old colt is now a Group 1 winner and worth many times his purchase price.

Snitzel, the super stallion who stands at Arrowfield Stud, is having another sensational season with the likes of outstanding filly and three-time Group 1 winner Lady Shenandoah, a third Golden Sipper with Marhoona and a Hong Kong Derby from Cap Ferrat.

“I’m sure Snitzel’s yearlings are going to be very popular at Easter again,’’ Arrowfield Stud supremo John Messara said.

“If they don’t buy them now as he is coming into his twilight years you would be very surprised.

“He is going as well as he ever has and there is a lot of interest in them.’’

Messara said some of the Snitzel yearlings from the Arrowfield draft who should sell well include Swizterland’s younger brother and a full-brother to Cap Ferrat.

“There’s also a very nice Snitzel colt out of Subella who is from the family of Dubawi. He’s beautifully related and has a lot of presence about him,’’ Messara added.

There were 421 yearlings catalogued for the Easter Sale including an extraordinary 228 yearlings that are either the progeny of stakeswinners or the siblings of stakeswinners.

The Riverside Sale complex has been inundated this week with potential buyers conducting yearling inspections ahead of the two-day sale.

Inglis is confident of having a strong international buying bench at Easter although American John Stewart, the underbidder on the Pierro-Winx filly that sold for a world record $10 million last year, won’t be in Sydney for the sale.

“Unfortunately I can’t make it in person this year as we have a busy ‘meet’ at Keeneland,’’ Stewardt told Racenet.

“But we will be active on a select number of horses at the sale.’’
