Godolphin’s boom colt Broadsiding didn’t need to win to indicate he’s going to be a major player during the spring carnival with his fast-finishing second in a Rosehill barrier trial on Thursday.

A dual Group 1 winner of the Champagne Stakes and JJ Atkins last season, Broadsiding settled back in the field under James McDonald and was conceding the speedy Keysborough many lengths on the turn in the 900m heat.

But Broadsiding lengthened stride nicely and closed late to finish second, only 1½ lengths behind Keysborough, who boasts the great Black Caviar as his grandam, stopping the clock at 54.27sec.

Trainer James Cummings has indicated Broadsiding was likely to go first-up into the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 28.

Bustling, the former brilliant Perth sprinter who has already been selected for the $20m The Everest by slot-holders and new owners, Max Whitby and Neil Werrett, also impressed with an all-the-way 900m trial win by 1½ lengths in 54.1sec.

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr-trained Bustling was given an easy time by jockey Chad Schofield but cruised home comfortably clear of the chasing pack led by classy mare Makarena.

Bustling won four of his five starts in Perth last season including the Karrakatta Plate and WA Sires Produce Stakes.

He is likely to have two runs into the Everest with the Price-Kent stable favouring sending the young sprinter second-up into the Listed $200,000 Heritage Stakes (1100m) on Golden Rose day.

Godolphin’s Tom Kitten, who already made a statement winning the Spring Preview first-up last month, showed good early speed in his 1030m trial but was kept under a tight hold by McDonald before finishing a close second to Chica Mojito.

Cummings said Tom Kitten would have his next start in the Group 3 $250,000 Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on September 21.
