Moore power to the punters as “part-Queenslander” delivers again
GARY Moore considers himself “part-Queenslander” and local punters would be happy to adopt him as his envious record in the state continued on the Gold Coast.
GARY Moore considers himself “part-Queenslander” and local punters would be happy to adopt him as his envious record in the state continued on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Moore saddled Hostwin Vintage to win the opening event before Winning Supreme proved too speedy in the Class 3 Plate.
Hostwin Vintage was backed from $4.60 to $3.80 favourite, while in a race that looked tricky on paper, punters backed Winning Supreme, from $8 to $5 favourite.
Moore said the three-year-old Hostwin Vintage would return to Sydney, while Winning Supreme would be spelled.
“These two were specifically picked out for these races and I thought both of them would win,” Moore said.
“The key is you have to bring the right horses.”
Moore has two runners at Eagle Farm on Wednesday and will then have Mount Panorama in next week’s Magic Millions Maiden. In the past 12 months, Moore has saddled 16 runners in Queensland, for seven winners, highlighted by Gold Coast Guineas winner Takedown during the Winter Carnival.
Luke Dittman was aboard both of Moore’s winners on Saturday and the trainer was naturally happy to heap praise on his efforts.
Dittman has had limited opportunities this season, with Saturday’s double bringing his tally of winners to 13 from less than 100 rides.
ECKSTEIN BOOKS TICKET FOR GOLD COAST
BRENTON Avdulla told trainer Kurt Goldman that Eckstein was her own worst enemy before beating older horses in Saturday’s Open Handicap (1200m).
“She did a lot wrong and got away with it,” Avdulla said.
Goldman wasn’t surprised that Eckstein raced more dour on Saturday than she had in previous starts.
“I told Brenton she’d had plenty of work and I wasn’t expecting her to be sharp, because her grand final isn’t until next week,” he said.
Eckstein is set to take on gun three-year-olds Winning Rupert and Global Glamour in next week’s Magic Millions Guineas (1400m), where Goldman feels the distance will suit much better.
“It won’t be easy, but that’s why she was here today and didn’t take them on last week,” he said. “She’s been in good form and knows how to win.”
Eckstein is a $17 chance in the Guineas with UBET.
