Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jye McNeil booked to ride Emissary in 2023 Caulfield Cup
2020 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jye McNeil will partner last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up in the Caulfield Cup.
Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Jye McNeil has been booked to ride last year’s Melbourne Cup runner-up in the $5m Caulfield Cup on Saturday week.
McNeil, who soared to Melbourne Cup glory when famously landing the race on Twilight Payment in 2020, will ride Emissary for Mike Moroney in the Caulfield Cup.

Emissary, who started his racing career in Great Britain, was ridden by Patrick Moloney when finishing second behind Gold Trip in last year’s Melbourne Cup.
Emissary qualified for the 2022 Melbourne Cup by winning the Geelong Cup, then turning in a career-best performance in the Melbourne Cup.
Moroney ended Emissary’s 2023 autumn campaign after he was unplaced in the Australian Cup.
He’s had three runs this spring carnival, most recently when finishing 12th last Saturday in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes won by Gold Trip.
McNeil has been training hard to ride at lower weights for the spring and will ride Emissary at 52kg in the Caulfield Cup.
He did not ride Emissary at the gelding’s last start but has ridden him several times before, including when scoring the Listed Heatherlie Stakes at Caulfield in August last year.
Emissary is rated a $51 chance in the Caulfield Cup and is the same price to go one better than he did last year in the Melbourne Cup.
