Brad Green was still reeling from the tragic death of his wife five months earlier when he met Channel 10’s Caty Price.

Brad Green has opened up on his rapid romance with Channel 10 racing reporter Caty Price after the sudden death of his wife, Anna, last year.

Green told the Herald Sun he was at the footy watching his former club the Melbourne Demons play in September last year when a friend of Price’s came to pay their respects after Anna suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in May.

But the sport presenter known as the Princess of the Punt caught his eye and after a social media connection their relationship grew during catch ups at Melbourne’s spring carnival.

“I had never met Caty,’’ Green told the Herald Sun. “She was with a friend who came up to pass on her condolences.

“We chatted for a bit and I later saw a post on Instagram about the Demons winning and I commented saying it was lovely to meet you yesterday. That’s all it was until we saw each other again at the races. We then started chatting and connecting and it went from there really.”

Brad and Anna had grown up together in Tasmania and been married since 2013, before adding sons Oliver, 10, and Wilba, eight, to their family.

It made Price pause when she considered pursuing a relationship with the 39-year-old.

“Knowing the circumstances your mind doesn’t go there straight away,’’ Price says.

“He happened to be in the Channel 10 marquee and seeing each other at the races again, it was just nice to have a few drinks and catch up.

“We trod very carefully in the beginning but he is hard to resist and then as things start to progress you realise that he’s someone who is so genuine with such a kind and beautiful heart.”

They went public in February this year, stepping out together at the MRC Foundation Blue Diamond Ball at Caulfield Racecourse. Green said it was a considered appearance.

“I think knowing the circumstances I went through, we were both nervous,’’ Green told the Herald Sun.

“Is it the right thing, are we hurting people? There’s feelings on both sides. You have feelings for Anna’s friends and family and making sure everyone else is all right, but us, too.

“We did keep it quiet, it started slow anyway. This wasn’t a race into dating. It started as going out for dinner, catching up for a drink. Just taking our time. We didn’t need to start anything too quick because we both were sensitive to the situation that I was in.”

She moved in with Green and his boys in May and they want anyone that’s critical about the pace at which their relationship has developed that they’re happy.
