Melbourne Cup 2024 live: Knight’s Choice wins famous race
The 164th Melbourne Cup will go down as one of the biggest boil overs ever seen. The biggest loser from the shock result has come to light.
The 164th Melbourne Cup has been run and won with Knight’s Choice pulling off a famous victory.
On a day of drama at Flemington, it is jockey Robbie Dolan that has stolen the show with a brilliant ride to win the $4.4 million prize for trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxon.
There was a photo finish with Warp Speed taking second position.
Star jockey Jamie Kah threatened to win with 100m to run, but her ride Okita Soushi dropped back to third position in a photo finish with Zardozi.

Knight’s Choice was a bargain buy for just $85,000 for Laxon and her Sunshine Coast operation. It has turned out to be the best investment Australian racing has seen for some time.
The five-year-old gelding was considered an $81 long-shot with bookmakers with his victory one of the biggest boil overs seen in recent years.
It was also the first time Queensland-based Irish jockey Dolan was racing in the Cup.
“Pinch me. I’m dreaming,” he said after the race.
“It is incredible. I can’t believe it. I don’t even know what to say.”
A Channel 9 commentator said: “What have we just seen? That was an incredible finish.”
