EMIRATES STAKES TIP

FOLKSWOOD

Tough race. Folkswood ran third in the Cox Plate but he’s had two tough runs in Australia, which is a concern, and he will need to do some work from the wide barrier.

BEST BET

KIWIA (R5 No. 3): There was only a head between Kiwia and winner Qewy in the Bendigo Cup, which was won in a race record time, and a huge gap to the rest of the field. The pair meet again but Kiwia can turn the tables from the better draw, while Qewy can find himself in a speed battle early.

JUMP ON

KING (R1 No. 6): Always a risk backing two-year-olds when there’s unexposed form, but this Written Tycoon colt for the Snowden stable has looked impressive in recent jumpouts and trials.

VALUE BET

CHAUTAUQUA (R7 No. 1): The grey flash’s controversial scratching before the Manikato Stakes could turn out to be a blessing. The seven-year-old gelding was the only horse to break 33sec for the last 600m in the The Everest and he loves the straight.

RISK

TOSEN STARDOM (R8, No. 4): In hindsight, Tosen wasn’t a great betting proposition last week in a race that was always going to lack speed, but he still performed well below his peak effort the start before. He could bounce back this weekend, but he also may not.
