Ken Callander: Punters who shopped early are laughing with Tarloshan

PUNTERS who have backed Tarloshan from $4.80 to $2.80 in early markets at Randwick on Saturday are set for a killing as the former Kiwi mare looks the bet of the day.

PUNTERS who have backed Tarloshan from $4.80 to $2.80 in early markets at Randwick on Saturday are set for a killing as the former Kiwi mare looks the bet of the day.

Tarloshan, who runs in Race 6 over 1600m, had three starts in New Zealand for two wins before crossing the Tasman and she has exactly the same record in Australia, having won the latest two of three runs on our shores on the Kensington track and Warwick Farm.

She has been most impressive, has loads of potential and although up in grade, should handle the rise.

Race 1 Randwick (12.15)

Betting: $4.80 Blademeister, Another Al, $5 Good Project, Uratta Belle, $7 Statton

Comment: Waterhouse runners, Global Domination and Another Al (who is ready to fire), will probably lead with Good Project, drawn deep, following them across. Good Project went good at the midweeks and has a top hope and Uratta Belle is also coming off a win. The runs of Testashadow and Blademeister were good behind Good Project, especially Blademeister, who was making his debut.

Bet: 4 Blademeister

Exotics: Box quinella 2 Good Project, 4 Blademeister, 9 Another Al

Race 2 (12.55)

Betting: $3.60 Black Revolver, $4.60 Weinholt, Parraay, $5 Dowdstown Charlie

Comment: Black Revolver and Mamwaazel continued consistent form in the placings behind their stablemate Abbasso at Rosehill last run. Black Revolver was particularly impressive. Dowdstown Charlie is the other big hope after an impressive Rosehill 1500m win and Weinholt, from Melbourne, is a big query. Cushy Number (resuming) and Parraay are place hopes.

Bet: 3 Black Revolver

Exotics: Quinellas 3 Black Revolver as a standout with 1 Mamwaazel, 5 Dowdstown Charlie

Race 3 (1.30)

Betting: $2.40 Pajaro, $4.20 The Alfonso, $8 Miss Husson, $9 Tarangower, $12 Enormous Honour

Comment: Pajaro, the likely leader, meets The Alfonso better for beating him clearly at Rosehill (1900m) two weeks ago. Both look top hopes again with Tarangower (third), Enormous Honour (fourth) and Casino Dancer (fifth), who all ran in that race, the likely main competition. Occasion has won two of her last three, but hasn’t beaten much.

Bet: 2 Pajaro

Exotics: 2 Pajaro as a standout in trifectas with 1 The Alfonso, 4 Enormous Honour, 5 Tarangower

Race 4 (2.05)

Betting: $2.80 Saigon Tea, $3.20 Reigning, $3.80 Done Nothin’ Wrong, $6.50 Specific Choice

Comment: Done Nothin’ Wrong beat Saigon Tea over 1900m two weeks ago on a hot speed and should be even better off here making his own pace. Saigon Tea nevertheless is improving quickly and is a promising stayer with a big chance. Reigning, also improved by two runs since a spell, is a top hope while the others could have the job ahead. Top four in market are all in Waller stable.

Bet: 1 Done Nothin’ Wrong

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Done Nothin’ Wrong, 2 Reigning, 4 Saigon Tea

Race 5 (2.40)

Betting: $2.90 Laidback Larry, $4.60 Bagman, $6 Single, Disciple, $6.50 Eigelstein

Comment: Laidback Larry is the query runner. He showed a lot of potential last time in and has trialled nicely. He should take up the running and, on his best, will be very hard to toss. The Waller runners, Bagman, Eigelstein, I’m Imposing and Disciple are all in with good prospects, especially Bagman who is approaching his top. Keep Cool and Single have to be considered.

Bet: 8 Laidback Larry

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Bagman, 5 Single, 6 Disciple, 8 Laidback Larry

Race 6 (3.15)

Betting: $2.80 Tarloshan, $5.50 First Class Ticket, $7 Express Power, Adorabeel, $8 Forever Crazy

Comment: Tarloshan looks to be improving quickly and has won well at her last two. As well, in a race without a lot of pace, she is versatile enough to take a forward position. Forever Crazy had excuses last run and will appreciate Randwick. First Class Ticket is consistent in this grade and Acapela , Express Power and Adorabeel (good run last start) are in the mix.

Bet: 6 Tarloshan

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Acapela, 3 First Class Ticket, 4 Forever Crazy, 6 Tarloshan

Race 7 (3.55)

Betting: $4.80 Society Man, $7 Taxmeifyoucan, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, Tralfaz, $7.50 Burbero

Comment: Society Man, $9.50 to $4.80, has to be respected after a good first-up run. No Bad Blood could be suited by the tempo at 1300m, Taxmeifyoucan has a lot of weight, but a bit of class, Burbero is honest, Wouldn’t It Be Nice went super last start, Youthful King and Aghamore raced well in the Jungle Juice Cup and Too Much Torque and Whisperossa (new trainer) are definite queries.

Bet: 6 Wouldn’t It Be Nice

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Taxmeifyoucan, 5 Whisperossa, 6 Wouldn’t It Be Nice, 8 No Bad Blood

Miss Alibi should have won last start and is nicely drawn in barrier one with her lightweight. Picture: Simon Bullard.

Race 8 (4.35)

Betting: $3.80 Miss Alibi, $6.50 Holder Sunset, $7 Rifleman, $8 Mount Nebo, $8.50 Worldly Impact

Comment: Holder Sunset should lead, but she fell in a heap at Canterbury last start and has to improve to win. Miss Alibi will get the good run from (1) alley, Mount Nebo will be right in it if he has luck from (14) and Fïeld Marshall (15) can improve. Tahitian Black and Kanjistar are worth a thought and Rifleman (first run for new trainer) is a big query.

Bet: 12 Miss Alibi

Exotics: Box trifecta 2 Mount Nebo, 6 Rifleman, 10 Holder Sunset, 12 Miss Alibi

BEST BET

Tarloshan

VALUE

Done Nothin’ Wrong

WHO’S HOT

Bookies have had enough of Vain Queen after doing plenty on her at her last two runs and she is $1.75 in the Sprint Final at Flemington.

WHO’S NOT

Newcastle filly Parraay struck the lottery to win at Canterbury at her latest outing and is under the odds in Race 2 at Randwick.

DROP A HINT

Punters waiting on the Chris Waller-trained Mulaqen will have to go to Melbourne as he is running in Race 3 at Flemington.

EYE CATCHER

Worldly Impact has caught the eye in a few fast run races and should be flashing home at good odds in the last at Randwick.
