Ken Callander: Arabian is solid Gold value for punters
Australia's favourite tipster Ken Callander is avoiding Atlantic Jewel and Hawkspur to find punters a value safe bet for their hard-earned money.
ATLANTIC Jewel at Caulfield in the Underwood Stakes and Hawkspur at Randwick in the George Main Stakes are going to attract the major interest in racing circles today, but punters looking for a safe bet for their hard-earned dollars should consider the credentials of the up and coming filly Arabian Gold in the Randwick Tea Rose Stakes.
Arabian Gold has to overcome last season's two-year-old of the year Guelph, but this David Vandyke-trained galloper has four wins from six starts to recommend her and she gets better every time she strips for action.
Race 1 Randwick (12.45)
Betting: $3.40 Twisted Emotions, $3.80 Photon Willie, $4.20 Gangster's Choice, $4.60 Hippopus
Comment: Very little speed and Hippopus (resuming) could get a quiet time in front and give a big kick. Gangster's Choice is likely to be ridden forward and was impressive beating Photon Willie here last start. Both have big chances again. Twisted Emotions ran home well from the rear to finish second to Hosting over 1400m at Rosehill last week.
Bet: 2 Gangster's Choice
Exotics: Quinella 2 Gangster's Choice, 3 Hippopus
Race 2 ((1.20)
Betting: $1.90 Guelph, $2.60 Arabian Gold, $6 Bound For Earth, $11 Shahad
Comment: I thought Bound For Earth beat Guelph fair and square first-up in the Furious and there won't be much between them again. The wildcard is Arabian Gold, who has won four from six, was very impressive in toying with Stamina last run and was just as impressive in a recent trial.
Bet: 3 Arabian Gold
Exotics: Quinella 2 Bound For Earth, 3 Arabian Gold
Race 3 (1.55)
Betting: $2.40 I'm All The Talk, $5.50 Va Pensiero, Diamond Oasis, $7 Whittington, $9 Dothraki
Comment: I'm All The Talk led against the older horses when fourth in the Concorde and will be hard to catch. Va Pensiero has been taking on the cream of the his age and winning and Diamond Oasis went super in a benchmark race against older horses last week. Whittington, on two-year-old form, would be right in it. Barbed is a query and Never Can Tell a place hope.
Bet: 6 Diamond Oasis
Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Va Pensiero, 2 I'm All The Talk, 6 Diamond Oasis, 8 Barbed.
Race 4 (2.35)
Betting: $2.80 Field Marshall, $4.20 Shelford, $6 Windswept, $8 Rock Magic, $12 Furious Jet
Comment: The three main hopes have drawn deep, Field Marshall (10), Shelford (12) and Windswept (13). Perhaps Destruction and Shelford will lead with Rawiller riding Field Marshall off the speed and Windswept looking to get in. Rock Magic, first-up, is a query and Angel Bee and Furious Jet are good roughies.
Bet: 2 Field Marshall
Exotics: Box trifecta 2 Field Marshall, 3 Shelford, 4 Windswept, 13 Angel Bee
Race 5 (3.15)
Betting: $2.70 Hawkspur, $6 Royal Descent, $7 Shoot Out, Dissident, $7.50 Streama
Comment: Veyron looks the leader from Streama. If you saw Hawkspur accelerate to win the Chelmsford over this course two weeks ago, it is hard to go past him, but Royal Descent, his stablemate, is also close to a win and a big chance. Dissident has to come into the reckoning with three-year-olds having a good record in this race. Streama, Sacred Falls and Veyron are value.
Bet: 6 Hawkspur
Exotics: Box trifecta 3 Veyron, 6 Hawkspur, 8 Royal Descent, 9 Dissident
Race 6 (3.55)
Betting: $2.80 Boban, $3.40 Sizzling, $7.50 Bello, Title, $10 Malavio
Comment: Pace a query with the good chances Bello and Malavio sharing the lead as they did in the Tramway and Title (big run last start) racing up close. Boban is the up and comer and he is going to get a beaut run from the inside gate. He has a lot of upside. Sizzling is down 2.5kg on the Tramway and ready to show his best.
Bet: 9 Boban
Exotics: Quinella 6 Title, 9 Boban
Race 7 (4.35)
Betting: $3 Moriarty, $4 Bayrir, $4.60 Kingdoms, $8.50 Glencadam Gold
Comment: Moriarty caught the eye second-up in the Chelmsford and Rawiller is back on him today. His stablemate Bayrir has tip top overseas form and his Chelmsford run was also OK. Glencadam Gold is a big query - he should lead and recent trackwork is good. Kingdoms is up to a suitable distance Sneak A Peek is a hope and Ironstein is not hopeless.
Bet: 4 Moriarty
Exotics: Box trifecta 4 Moriarty, 5 Glencadam Gold, 6 Bayrir, 9 Ironstein
Race 8 (5.15)
Betting: $2.50 Sessions, $6 Decision Time, $7.50 Tiger Tees,$9 Hay List
Comment: Speed will be on with Welkom Gold and California Storm. Decision Time looks good odds against Sessions after beating him in the Concorde and both should play major roles again. Tiger Tees did not come up last preparation and should be watched and do not underestimate Hay List.
Bet: 4 Decision Time
Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Hay List, 4 Decision Time, 5 Tiger Tees, 11 Sessions

WHO'S HOT
The Robert Smerdon-trained Politeness has been backed from $4 to $3.20 in the Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield. The tip is she is very classy.
WHO'S NOT
Guelph was Australia's best two-year-old last season, but we are now betting on three-year-old form and she looks short at odds on in the Tea Rose at Randwick.
DROP A HINT
The Hawkes-trained Angel Bee turned in a super run at Warwick Farm last start when finishing alongside Shelford. He is at big odds in the fourth at Randwick.
EYE CATCHER
Veyron caught everybody's eye winning the Warwick Stakes and Kiwi jockey Rogan Norvall was never out of trouble on him in the Chelmsford. He can surprise in the George Main.
