In Secret shows Everest credentials with Coolmore Stud Stakes blitz at Flemington

Outstanding filly In Secret obliterated her rivals in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes which prompted trainer James Cummings to make a big Everest statement.

The secret’s out!

Godolphin never paid a cent (of its own money) for newly-minted Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner In Secret.

It covered the bill, “the whole lot” of $900,000, with racing shop-a-dockets.

Owners who win races in NSW with horses bred in the state – Victoria (VOBIS) has the same program – get extra prizemoney out of the Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme (BOBS).

Godolphin is no different and given its footprint in NSW, the Blue Army gets a stack of vouchers, which it put to remarkable use last year, buying the I Am Invincible-Eloping filly In Secret.

In Secret is the first horse bought by the Australian arm of the global breeding and racing empire, led by Vin Cox and trainer James Cummings, to win a Group 1 race.

“It’s a good feeling winning that race,” Cummings said.

“The Coolmore Stud Stakes has become the Golden Slipper of the spring carnival for three-year-olds.

“You dream about winning a Coolmore because you have to go to the next level to go to Derby Day and perform on the big stage over six furlongs (1200m) and at set weights against the best.”

In Secret, one of three fillies in the stallion-making race, obliterated her opposition by two lengths eased down on the line as James McDonald celebrated his fourth win on the card.

C’est Magique, another filly, surged into second with Buenos Noches a length adrift in third.

Cummings, completely in awe of In Secret’s potential, declared the star filly the best in his yard.

“You watch that race today and watch what she did to Jacquinot there, you tell me that she wouldn’t have given them a scare (in The Everest),” Cummings said.

“Regardless, we’ve won the Coolmore and we kept her on ice for this race. She’s probably going to be The Everest favourite for next year.”

In Secret is the second filly in three years to win the Coolmore and 13th overall since 1959.

She continued the scintillating run for jockey James McDonald and Godolphin this season.

The combination has netted 10 winners, five Group 1s including the Cox Plate, from their past 21 starts.

“I knew my job, I had to muster to get a spot pretty quickly instead of gliding into that spot, it was very important to get that spot for my winning chances, as it turned out she won by a margin,” McDonald said.

“She just put them to the sword. She’s a dominant filly.”

McDonald won the Coolmore last year aboard Home Affairs.
