Corey Brown: I believe Snitzerland is up for major joy at Rosehill Gardens
SNITZERLAND has just about done it all on the racetrack except win a Group 1 race - but I'm confident she can finally win that major at Rosehill.
SNITZERLAND has just about done it all on the racetrack except win a Group 1 race - but I'm confident she can finally win that elusive major at Rosehill Gardens today.
I've ridden this filly through most of her career and won six races on her. She has been absolutely unreal for me and I'll be doing my best to help her gain a deserved Group 1 success in The Galaxy. This is a hot sprint field and Snitzerland, although the favourite, does face a task. She has her share of weight, we are drawn a little wide, and the opposition is tough.
Experts backing Snitzerland for win
But the way Snitzerland won the Challenge Stakes first-up at Warwick Farm two weeks ago showed she is back in career-best form. I always knew this filly was good, but I didn't think she was that good! The way she won that race proved to me she has gone to another level now.
She showed she can sit up on a hot tempo and still dash clear. The way she accelerated was unreal.
Snitzerland is nothing to look at - she is a bit of a "Plain Jane" - and she has a funny action but she gives 110 per cent every time she races.
Her work since Warwick Farm has been outstanding, trainer Gerald Ryan has her right where he wants her to be - so bring on The Galaxy!
GOLDEN SLIPPER
IT IS just seven days away and at this stage I'm still without a ride in the race.
But I've got rides in both two-year-olds races today and although each is at big odds, I rate them winning chances.
Vocalise is a promising filly wearing blinkers for the first time in the Magic Night Stakes. If she is going to the Slipper she needs them as she feels more like a 1400m-1600m horse. The blinkers will sharpen her up and I've no doubt she has improved with them on. I haven't been on Raise No Doubt's back before but he looks a nice horse and is going to win races.
With two-year-olds, they can improve overnight and with Vocalise and Raise No Doubt you just never know.
THE GUINEAS
I'LL be watching the Rosehill Guineas from the jockeys room today but given my choice I'd like to be riding It's A Dundeel.
He was outstanding winning the Randwick Guineas last start at Warwick Farm. The blinkers really made a difference with this colt and he showed a touch of brilliance I didn't think he had. I rode Sacred Falls in the Randwick Guineas last start and I can tell you he did not have a lot of luck. He will definitely be running well so don't overlook him.
THE CARNIVAL
THE jockeys wore the carpet out marching into the stewards room last Saturday. It was very competitive racing and the stewards issued five reprimands.
This tells me all the boys have their "game face" on for the autumn carnival.
The autumn carnival this year is shaping as the best in years - and I haven't forgotten how good the racing was at last year's autumn carnival. To cap it off, we are finally back to Royal Randwick on Monday.
It will feel strange as we haven't been there for so long but I can't wait to ride on the track again. I've ridden in some barrier trials on the course proper recently and the track is in super order, which it is entitled to be given the long break it has had from racing, but with the new grandstand nearing completion, Royal Randwick will be a
fantastic racing facility.
