Hawkesbury races Sunday: Preview, best bets and inside mail
Kim Waugh wasn’t the least bit surprised by the first-up performance of Jared at big odds and feels he will run another bold race when he heads to Hawkesbury.
Wyong trainer Kim Waugh has always had a good opinion of Jared and wasn’t surprised by his eye-catching run at big odds first-up.
The lightly-raced three-year-old started a $26 chance before flashing home from near last down the outside of the field to finish a half-length second behind Spirit Of Varanasi over 1000m at Kembla on September 14.
Jared heads to Hawkesbury Kohnke’s Own Maiden Plate over 1100m where he has drawn barrier 10 with Jay Ford to ride again.

“I’m really happy with him and he’s a very nice horse,” Waugh said.
“He’s only had the two starts but I was wrapped with his first run back. He really hit the line strongly.
“He’s just drawn a little bit tricky on Sunday but Jay will sort that out.”
To add a little more strength to his form, the third placed Reigning King, who started the odds-on favourite, led all-the-way to win at Gosford on Thursday.
“I always like to see the horses who finish around us some on and run well again. That gives us a bit more confidence.”
In the same race, Waugh will also saddle up Prince Kuro who is making his race debut.
The three-year-old son of Epaulette has trialled nicely in recent weeks with a fourth to Hachiman at Wyong and a third behind New Forest on the Beaumont at Newcastle.
He has drawn barrier 2 which is a huge plus according to Waugh with Tyler Schiller to take the rode.
“That’s a perfect barrier for a first starter because he’s still got a bit to learn,” she said.
“It gives him the chance to follow the rail and for a bit of confidence.
“He’s going well but whatever he does he will improve on and he’s still probably a preparation away from showing he is capable of.”
Riley Park has improved with each run this campaign and is close to breaking through for his first career win.
The son of Vancouver had his first two runs back from a spell over 1200m before running home well for fourth behind Mr Papera over 1500m here on Sept 7 and steps up to 1600m in the opening event, the Sky Racing Maiden Handicap, with Adam Hyeronimus aboard.
“We had him in at Gosford on Thursday over 1900m but he was the first emergency but he didn’t get a run. This race was a back-up option for him,” said Waugh.
“I think he is going to get over further than 1600m which is why we were looking forward to going over 1900m.
“He runs at Hawkesbury over the mile where he has drawn a nice barrier and I think he will run a nice race.”
Waugh has been happy with what she has seen from Miss Moorooduc this time in and hopes to see her run a solid race first-up in the Maiden Plate over 1400m.
The daughter of Puissance De Lune was down the track in three runs in her first campaign but has come back more mature.
“This time in her work has been better, her trials have been much better and she just has to do it on raceday now,” she said.
“She has shown us she has got some ability but we would just like to see her put it all together.”
Her final runner for the day is honest mare Buba who resumes in the in the Benchmark 68 Handicap (1300m).
“She is coming along well but just not quite there yet fitness wise so this will top her off,” she said.
“She’s drawn a nice barrier and hopefully she can run into the placings.”

INSIDE MAIL - HAWKESBURY
RACE 1
Riley Park has improved with each run this campaign. Worked home nicely from back in the field when fourth to Mr Papera over 1500m here last start on Sept 7 with his last 100m the best part of his race. Will appreciate stepping up in trip. Casablanca, the brother to Group 1 Yearning, struck a heavy track on debut over 1300m at Goulburn on Sept 8 when fourth to Snapback. Found a good track there second-up when a half-length third to Dead Of Night over 1500m after being taken on in front early. Annoint raced wide when a two length seventh behind Monte Maximus on debut at Kembla. Midori Giant is better than his first-up run. Has place claims.

RACE 2
No More Lies had trialled well ahead of her first start and backed it up with a long head second behind Fleetwood at Warwick Farm on May 17. Suffered cardiac arrhythmia at her second start two weeks later when last at the same track. Travelled strongly out wide before closing nicely to win her Rosehill trial on Sept 19. Gold Dust raced in the middle of a line of three and hit the front inside the 200m before being caught late when third to Missouk and Kostroma on debut here on Sept 7. The hardest to beat. Melissa is now trained at Tulloch Lodge and has won both recent barrier trials by a margin. Was placed third at Newcastle last preparation.

RACE 3
Jared resumed from a spell over 1000m at Kembla and flew home late to finishing a half-length second behind Spirit of Varanasi with Reigning King third who has since won at Gosford last Thursday. Steps up to 1100m which will suit. Gustosisimo was sixth to Shinzo in the Pago Pago on debut and closed his first campaign with a second at Wyong on Apr 27. Trialling nicely. Hachiman was sound in his only two runs to date when sixth to Sovereign Fund in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic and sixth to Infatuation at Randwick last December. Worked home well to win his Wyong trial on Sept 18 before a close second on the Beaumont.

RACE 4
Pier Pressure held the inside in a line of three and battled away when fifth behind Missouk when resuming over 1000m here on Sept 7. Raced with cover behind Aditi who rolled along in front and kicked away to win easily while Piere Pressure worked home to finish third over 1200m at Warwick Farm last start. Better suited at 1400m here and was third to Militarize at this trip in the Gr1 Sires’ Produce. Monte Braveheart ran a handy race on debut before a spell. Resumed with a handy half-length third to It’sacircus at Kembla over 1200m. Former Victorian mare Detoron has run a couple of handy races and should be kept safe. Miss Monopoly has placed in four of her five starts but has drawn wide.

RACE 5
Imported gelding Mr Buster was a beaten favourite at his Australian debut when a length second to Spaltet over 1600m a Warwick Farm on Sept 20 when coming from second last. He was a big winner over 2012m at his last run in England back in May and step up to that trip here. Speycaster, another former English galloper, ran handy races at his first two Australian runs at Sandown before failing at Caulfield last start. Back in grade and can run a much improved race. Yet He Moves came from back in the field with a good finish to win at Gosford on Aug 24 before racing keen when fifth at Newcastle last start.

RACE 6
Fairway Star has been trialling very well ahead of her return to racing. Led and held together to score narrowly here before a strong three length win at Randwick after sitting outside the leader. Resumed last campaign with a win and can kick off this preparation the same way. Momack dropped back to provincial grade and was beaten a long neck by Zouologist giving away 5.5kg. Wealthofknowledge was caught three-wide in track record time behind Body Bob when resuming. Can bounce back with a better run here. Zouologist led and held out Momack to win last start but meets him 5.5kg worse.
Bet: Fairway Star to win
RACE 7
Queen Of The Mile closed off last campaign with a good win over 1100m at Bathurst and kicked off her latest preparation the same way with a two and a half-length win at Wyong over 1000m on Aug 27. Can bring up the hat-trick. My Eloise was a beaten favourite when resuming but she did have to cover extra ground before finishing about three lengths off Florida Sky at Newcastle on Sept 16. Had trialled very well prior to that run winning both heats and she has won at this track and distance. Can bounce back. Forms Of Fear raced keenly outside the leader before finishing sixth to Los Padre when resuming here on Sept 21. Will take benefit from the outing and can run a much better race second-up. London has win both recent trials at Warwick Farm and has performed well at this track.
Bet: Queen Of The Mile to win.
