Giga Kick will be given his chance to become only the second dual winner of the $20m The TAB Everest.

Slot-holder Australian Turf Club has negotiated a deal to lease the slot to Giga Kick’s owner Jonathan Munz for the chestnut sprinter to contest the world’s richest turf race run at Royal Randwick on October 19.

The Clayton Douglas-trained Giga Kick won The Everest in 2022 and is on the comeback trail this season after a hip injury sidelined him for nearly 12 months.

Giga Kick can give J-Mac plenty to ponder for Everest

Giga Kick made his comeback to racing in the Concorde Stakes last month and ran fifth behind I Am Me.

But the powerful five-year-old gelding looked sharp in a recent Canterbury barrier trial win and will complete his Everest preparation in the Group 2 $1m Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Champion jockey James McDonald, who is yet to lock in his Everest ride, said earlier this week that Giga Kick is “ready to explode” after his impressive trial win.

Speaking to News Corp from New York, Jonathan Munz confirmed he had negotiated a deal with Australian Turf Club.

“The plan has always been to get the horse to The Everest third up and everything is on track,” Munz said.

“We are expecting him to be very hard to beat on Saturday and I’m looking forward to being in Sydney for The Everest.”

If Giga Kick can win The Everest, he will join Redzel (2017-18) as the only sprinters to win the rich Randwick sprint twice.

Giga Kick is a $7 chance for The Everest with race sponsor TAB with favouritism remaining with I Wish I Win at $5.

Bella Nipotina, which will match motors with Giga Kick in Saturday’s Premiere Stakes at Randwick, is also at $7 in betting.
