English media commentator Matt Chapman says Vauban will win the Melbourne Cup easily
English racing commentator Matt Chapman says Vauban is over the line in the Melbourne Cup and also gave Aussie owners a whack for buying the wrong European horses.
Provocative Pom Matt Chapman says a headache is the only thing that can beat 2023 Melbourne Cup favourite Vauban.
The English racing commentator who loves nothing more than stirring up Aussies says the Melbourne Cup will be heading overseas again.

He says you could even erect some hurdles down the famous Flemington straight and the Willie Mullins-trained favourite Vauban would still win.
“Only a headache on the day can get him beat,” Chapman told Racenet.
“Of course, anything can happen, but as I have said before, the Australian handicappers are putty in the hands of Willie Mullins.
“Vauban has everything, mixing speed and stamina.
“And he has (jockey) Ryan Moore.
“Hell, if you put up eight flights of hurdles he would still be the best. Remember Moore rode over jumps?”
The colourful Chapman created a furore in 2018 when at the Cox Plate barrier draw he told a room full of Aussies that Winx was only beating moderate horses.
Later, he described Winx as a “pensioner” and questioned the mighty mare’s rating as the world’s best racehorse.

Chapman read with interest the recent comments of Melbourne Cup king Lloyd Williams who told Racenet that Cup favourite Vauban was such a good thing that his famed former gambling mate Kerry Packer would have unleashed and had bookies quivering.
“Lloyd Williams has traded horses in Ireland and he understands the skills of Willie Mullins,” Chapman said.
While Chapman is confident that Vauban will leave rival stayers in his dust, he also ridiculed Australian owners for buying what he claims are the wrong Melbourne Cup horses out of Europe.

“I hope Australia enjoys the European Melbourne Cup, the race that nearly stops Europe,” Chapman said.
“We look forward to you all buying more horses – some of which are the most insane selections you could think of, like why are your people so badly advised – for crazy prices next year.”
