Doncaster Mile weights revealed with Lady Shenandoah given featherweight

The weights for the Doncaster Mile have been released with Lady Shenandoah aiming to become the first filly to win the race since 1999.

Doncaster Mile favourite Lady Shenandoah will need to carry 51.5kg if she is to become the first filly this century to win the time-honoured handicap at Royal Randwick.

Weights for the 160th edition of the Group 1 $4m Doncaster Mile (1600m) on April 5 were released this week.

Lady Shenandoah, the current $6 Doncaster favourite, carries ballot exemption for the race after winning the Group 1 Flight Stakes during the spring.

The last three-year-old filly to win the Doncaster was Sunline in 1999 with 52kg on her back.

Lady Shenandoah is being prepared for another Group 1 crack this weekend where she is favourite for the Surround Stakes.

Six-time Group 1 winner Via Sistina has been handed topweight of 60kg, however trainer Chris Waller is set to target the mare at the following week’s Group 1 $5m Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m).

Trainer Joe Pride has a similar plan for Ceolwulf ($8), which has been allocated 57.5kg.

Godolphin weapon Broadsiding is the highest rated three-year-old among the 156 nominations and has been tasked with carrying 55kg.

Schofield’s Magic Millions appeal win heads to Supreme Court

There has been support from $15 into $11 for classy three-year-old Swiftfalcon after the Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes-trained galloper was given the featherweight for 49kg.

He is on the same line of betting as Tom Kitten and Another Wil, which have been given 55.5kg and 56.5kg respectively.

Bjorn Baker has stated his intentions to run classy mare Stefi Magnetica in the Doncaster with his Group 1-winning talent given 54.5kg.

Baker’s The Ingham winner Robusto snared ballot exemption for the Doncaster by winning the Group 2 but isn’t among the nominations for the famous mile.
