WHAT THE JOCKEYS SAID
1ST – GLEN BOSS
SIR DRAGONET
“It’s a special race and I just couldn’t have scripted the run any better. He just gave me a lovely ride. I was twitching my fingers throughout the race and he was there for me. I thought ‘this is nearly going to be winning this’. He was up for the task.
2ND – BEN MELHAM
ARMORY
“He was good. He just struggled in the ground and I had to keep him wide on the fresh ground. Just got beaten by a better one on the day. He had his chance.”
3RD – DAMIEN OLIVER
RUSSIAN CAMELOT
“Great effort. He ran really good. Got into a nice position. Was probably a little close to a strong speed from the barrier but we did as well as we could. He was super brave even when the first two came to him. He fought it out really well.”
4TH – JOHN ALLEN
MUGATOO
“He’s gone super. Tried to get a bit of cover early so he’d done it the tough way. Didn’t get around the home bend great but he battled on good.”
5TH – WILLIE PIKE
ARCADIA QUEEN
“It was a sound effort.”
6TH – LUKE CURRIE
FIERCE IMPACT
“Went back from the draw. He got a good run through them but he was on empty late.”
7TH – KERRIN MCEVOY
PROBABEEL
“The ground went against her. She tried very hard but she found it tough over that last furlong in the ground.”
8TH – MICHAEL RODD
MASTER OF WINE
“He ran his race a bit upside down. He was very keen early wanting to charge up behind them. He had no right to finish where he did and they sprinted and left him and then he came home late. He’s still a work in progress, the horse.”
9TH – BILLY EGAN
NETTOYER
“She worked to the line nicely. She went all right for her in that grade.”
10TH – JAMIE KAH
BUCKHURST
“He was disappointing. He was very dour today.”
11TH – DAMIAN LANE
ASPETAR
“Didn’t handle the track or the conditions or the circuit.”
12TH – CRAIG WILLIAMS
HUMIDOR
“He followed the winner up through the race but he dipped and dived from the 1200 (metre mark) onwards, even though he was in the same ground as the winner, he just didn’t enjoy it today.”
13TH – JAMES MCDONALD
KOLDING
“He doesn’t go this way around. Simple.”
14TH – JYE MCNEIL
GRANDSLAM
“Not to be today.”

HOW THE RACE WAS WON
By Brad Waters
THE JUMP
Three-year-old Grandslam jumped well with Probabeel and Russian Camelot away fairly. Sir Dragonet began evenly with Glen Boss wanting to keep him off the rail early.
WINNING POST FIRST TIME
Grandslam led with Probabeel handy and Russian Camelot working forward from this wide gate. Sir Dragonet had found his spot midfield on the rail with Armory just ahead of him.
1200M
Grandslam still held sway ahead of Probabeel with Russian Camelot in fourth spot. Armory raced on the outside of Sir Dragonet midfield during the middle stages. Mugatoo was three wide on that pair’s outside.
600M
Ben Melham peeled four-wide to take Armory into the race with Boss making the vital move to track him into the race on Sir Dragonet. The race begins in earnest from there.
200M
Armory looms menacingly over the leaders while Russian Camelot is under pressure. Sir Dragonet handles the home turn better than Armory. Mugatoo tries hard on their outside.
FINISH
Glen Boss stands high in the irons as Sir Dragonet outpoints a valiant Armory. Russian Camelot runs a solid third ahead of Mugatoo, who was brave to hold on after a tough run.
