Just seven days after quitting as ATA boss, Cameron Partington is back to help out trainers in Queensland until a new chief is found.

Cameron Partington has returned to his post as Trainers’ Association boss but he stressed it is a temporary measure until the organisation finds a new chief executive in the Sunshine State.

ATA regional executive Tony Fenlon has also come back to his role in the short-term.

Partington shocked the industry when he resigned from his position last Friday as the relationship between the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers’ Association and Racing Queensland reached an all-time low.

Partington said at the time that RQ had made it clear to him that the ATA was having a “negative influence” on Racing Queensland’s ability to effectively manage the state’s racing operations.

“The current RQ leadership team appeared today to clearly feel more committed to listening to the complaints from staff within their racing team about the ATA, than to constructively discuss where the root of the problem, in my personal opinion, lies,” he told Racenet last Friday.

But Partington said on Friday he would “hang around” until a new chief executive was found for the ATA’s Queensland branch.

“Basically because of mine and Tony’s respect and passion for the industry, and more for our trainers, we couldn’t leave them high and dry,” Partington said on Friday.

“We don’t want to leave the trainers in the lurch so we said we’ll hang in there in the short-term until we find a suitable replacement.

“It’s important for someone to keep the ATA in a strong position because we need to keep working and ensure it’s business as usual.”

Last week Racing Queensland acting chief executive Lachlan Murray said: “Over the past 15 years, Cameron has been a passionate advocate for the ATA and for advancing the Queensland racing industry. His deep knowledge of racing and enthusiasm is unquestionable and he’ll be sorely missed.

“We’re disappointed he believes it has come to this, but we respect his decision.”
