RANDWICK
Track: Heavy 8. Rail: True
Race 1
Tricky race to kick off the day. Parisal did enough fresh to be competitive here. This is a step up but she could be up to it. Lonrioli, Wild Botanica, Yankee Hussel, Razeta and Wingardium are all chances and the hopes don’t end there.
Betting Advice: Exotics here.
Race 2
I thought Dream Runner represented some value and he was super first-up and will strip fitter. He has been successful on the 1200m to 1600m set up prior and he gets in with no weight here. Steely and Kirwan’s Lane were both terrific and look suited here second up as well. Wicklow will also have fans.
Betting Advice: Dream Runner at the value
Race 3
Looks a race in two between Cascadian and Surf Dancer and everything will come down to tempo. Cascadian is the better horse but he is going to give them a start. Surf Dancer should motor out in front and be very hard to catch.
Betting Advice: Slight leaning to Cascadian over Surf Dancer.
Race 4
Looks a race in two between Cadre Du Noir and Stockman. Cadre Du Noir should get a decent run just behind the speed and he is flying of late. He just has to see out the 2600m here. Stockman will appreciate the extra trip and he likes wet ground too. Sacramento next pick.
Betting Advice: Cadre Du Noir and Stockman to win.
Race 5
Interesting race. It’s Me comes out on top rating wise but she has been under an injury cloud all week and that’s a concern. Front Page is just so good first-up and I’m with him here as a result. Spiranac, Art Cadeau and Far Too Easy will all be running on late with Anethole.
Betting Advice: Front Page to win.
Race 6
Kementari was super in the lead-up and that run suggested he wouldn’t have been out of the hopes of finishing top six in an Everest. He gets conditions to suit again and should run well. In The Congo is tough and it just didn’t work out for him fresh in an unsuitable race. Remarque is flying, while Waihaha Falls is the new kid on the block and must be respected as well.
Betting Advice: Leaning to Kementari.
Race 7
Nature Strip is the best horse in Australia and the world’s best sprinter. He was dynamic first-up and the only query in my mind is his second up record (it’s plain by his standard). This is grand final day though and he is never second up on grand final day so I’ll back Chris Waller to get him cherry ripe. Eduardo looks the main danger on ability but race shape allows Lost And Running and Masked Crusader to finish off powerfully.
Betting Advice: Nature Strip on top.
Race 8
Happy to make a case for Lavish Girl and I thought she did enough first-up in Victoria. She maps well here in a race with not a lot of speed and she should give a kick. Mr Mozart is tracking nicely and it’s just a case of whether barrier one is okay at this time of the day. Vilana, Espiona and Startantes are all chances and the hopes don’t end there.
Betting Advice: Lavish Girl to win
Race 9
Looks a race in two between Ellsberg and Ayrton and weather should be key. On a very wet track, I’m with the Epsom winner Ellsberg but on a drying track it could swing things back in the favour of Ayrton. Two class horses.
Betting Advice: Ellsberg on heavy, Ayrton on soft.
Race 10
I like the way Cap De Joie has been hitting the line and she looks a mare with plenty of talent. Polly Grey is so well weighted in a race like this and she did run second in an Aspiration Quality first-up last prep at this track and distance. Finepoint and Grace And Harmony next best.
Betting Advice: Cap De Joie to win.
