ROSEHILL

Track: Soft 6. Rail: Out 3m entire circuit

RACE 1

Overview: This is the one race on the program I still have a bit of work to do on at this early stage. Participator, Bandi’s Boy, Optimo, Comonic and Salire are all chances and they’ll back a few here in the TAB Highway to kick off the day.

Betting Advice: Suggesting multiples. Participator will have admirers.

RACE 2

Overview: So United has been getting close to another win and I like his on pace racing style. He is very tough and should be hard to get past late. Herman Hesse is building nicely this prep and the step up to 2400m with a trial in between looks to suit him third up. Strawberry Rock just has to reproduce his performance last start to go close again, while Marakopa was disappointing last start but his best form is good for a race like this.

Betting Advice: So United on top.

RACE 3

Overview: Open Midway as is normally the case. Scorched Land has been going well in easier grade and he gets a nice drop in weight here and a good draw. Bazooka was a good winner last start and just drops back 200m in trip here. My Truth was a dominant winner at Canterbury second up and just has to reproduce that now.

Betting Advice: Leaning to Scorched Land at the odds.

RACE 4

Overview: Interesting race. Casino Kid stays at 1600m but he has come back well this prep and he should be strong late again here. Niffler wasn’t suited when back in trip from a wide draw last start but she sets up well here back out in trip from a better gate. Morethannumberone and One Aye also have each way claims in what’s shaping as a pretty interesting mile race.

Betting Advice: Casino Kid perhaps.

RACE 5

Overview: Happy to be with the former West Australian here in Showmanship and he looks a talent. He has only been defeated twice and one of those he should have bolted in and the other was first up off a long break at Warrnambool where he just felt the pinch late on a heavy track. Special Reward wasn’t suited by the wide draw fresh but he can settle much closer in the run here and can improve sharply. King Of Sparta is going OK and the drier track should suit him. He is very short in betting all the same.

Betting Advice: Showmanship on top.

RACE 6

Overview: Lord Ardmore was a good winner last start and the step up to 2000m appeals here. He has drawn to get a lovely run again and should be hard to beat once more. Grove Ferry was very good against Lord Ardmore last start and he just has to reproduce that now. Francesco Guardi and Toomuchtobear on the next line.

Betting Advice: Lord Admore looks the one to beat.

RACE 7

Overview: Even race for the mares. Fituese won this race last year and she is a very good fresh mare. She should get a drying track and should be strong late at her pet trip. Zapateo draws a nice gate and looks the horse to beat on what she did last campaign. The Queenslander Boomnova must be respected but I wonder whether she would have preferred 1000m?

Betting Advice: Fituese the value but Zapateo the one to beat.

RACE 8

Overview: Interesting Winx Stakes and there doesn’t seem to be a heap of speed on paper. Mo’unga never trials well but he did win this race first up last year and he just needs the tempo to be genuine enough for him early. Fangirl is likely to get back early but one thing she has is a real turn of speed and it could play into her hands if this is a sprint home. Anamoe is a ripper but he did look a bit warm in a recent trial and I wonder whether he may be better with the run? The parade will tell us more.

Betting Advice: Leaning to Mo’unga.

RACE 9

Overview: In Secret looks a promising filly for the Godolphin yard and she maps to get the perfect run here with James McDonald aboard. She was good in two runs last prep and looks the one to beat here. Russian Conquest wasn’t suited by the heavy tracks last prep but her form prior to that was very good for a race like this. Willinga Beast should be strong late, while Opal Ridge, Revolutionary Miss and Miyoshi should all have admirers.

Betting Advice: In Secret the one to beat but Russian Conquest can run well at odds.

RACE 10

Overview: Open race to finish the day. You could do worse than speck Cisco Bay at big odds. The 1200m is probably too short and the wide gate doesn’t help either but he should have won first up last prep against a subsequent Group 1 winner and a was a strong winner first up the prep prior to that at Randwick. Pizarro, Arbitration, Zarastro (back as a gelding), Mayrose and Jal Lei can all win without surprising.

Betting Advice: Cisco Bay is not hopeless at big odds.
