Boban's booming finish is just what's needed in Epsom mile

BOBAN, a horse with a devastating sprint, can win today's Epsom for Chris Waller and Glyn Schofield at Royal Randwick.

Boban is on trial at 1600m, having over-raced at his only previous run at the trip, but the way he tackled 1400m in a runaway 3-¾ lengths win in the Bill Ritchie Handicap two weeks ago suggests he will handle it. The trick with Boban is to get him to settle and Glyn Schofield is the man to do that.

Don't be surprised if Lloyd Williams springs a surprise in The Metropolitan Handicap, the other feature race, with his import Seville, who is out to find form again after running second to the Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon in the Turnbull Stakes at this time last year.

Race 1 (12.10)

Betting: $2.60 Tetsuko, $4.60 Lucky Raquie, $9.50 Precia, Tiare

Comment: Tetsuko starred at the trials, where she jumped in front and showed natural speed, and she is definitely the one to beat. Her stablemate Lucky Raquie also trialled nicely. Watch out for Kokomo if she gets a run as she made heaps of ground in her trial after missing the kick. Datable also looks value.

Bet: 13 Tetsuko

Exotics: Quinella 13 Tetsuko, 15 Kokomo

Race 2 (12.45)

Betting: $2.50 Wandjina, $4.60 Ghibellines, $7 Law, $8 Ragged Keys, $11 Double Happy

Comment: Gai Waterhouse holds a big hand with three of the four favourites including Wandjina, who won a trial well. Ragged Keys also looked above average in his heat. Ghibellines, a brother to Guelph, impressed and will hit the line hard and his stablemate Mohave is not out of it. Also keep an eye on Alkadabra, Lord Beckworth and Double Happy.

Bet: 5 Ghibellines

Exotics: Quinella 5 Ghibellines, 10 Ragged Keys

Race 3 (1.25)

Betting: $2.3 Masked Marvel, $4.20 Honorius, $5.50 Kelinni, $12 Vaquera

Comment: There should be strong speed with Cantonese, Hippopus and Winning Glory which suits Kelinni who has run fourth in a Melbourne Cup and won a Quality at Randwick with 60kg. Also suited is Masked Marvel, a European with form, who almost hit the outside fence when third to Moriarty in the Hill Stakes two weeks ago. The stablemates Winning Glory and Honorius are in the mix.

Bet: 2 Kelinni

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Masked Marvel, 2 Kelinni, 3 Winning Glory, 6 Honorius

Race 4 (2.05)

Betting: $1.40 Guelph, $3.30 Arabian Gold, $10 Bound For Earth, $26 She's Bella

Comment: Hard to go past Guelph on her comfortable win over Arabian Gold and Bound For Earth in the Tea Rose, 1400m, here two weeks ago. Arabian Gold will be better suited at the 1600m but so too will Guelph.

Bet: 1 Guelph

Exotics: Quinella 1 Guelph, 3 Arabian Gold

Race 5 (2.45)

Betting: $1.80 Zoustar, $4.60 Barbed, $7 Va Pensiero, $7.50 Open Book

Comment: Va Pensiero, Mr Jackman and Little Miss Smiley look the go forward horses, but Waller will have kept Zoustar nice and fresh for this and he should overpower them down the running. Barbed, the winner of two from two, is highly promising and clearly second pick ahead of Va Pensiero.

Bet: 1 Zoustar

Exotics: Quinella 1 Zoustar, 3 Barbed

Race 6 (3.25)

Betting: $3.20 Rock Hero, Thunder Fantasy, $7 Saintly Lad, $9 Equator, Vilanova

Comment: Not a lot of speed and Thunder Fantasy could make his own luck and go forward from his barrier. He was super impressive winning at Newcastle. There is a 7.5kg turnaround in Liberty's Choice's favour over Rock Hero, but he could be ordinary and Rock Hero has potential. Consider Equator, Vilanova and The Special Two while Saintly Lad has blinkers to help him.

Bet: 5 Thunder Fantasy

Exotics: Box trifecta 1 Equator, 4 Rock Hero, 5 Thunder Fantasy, 6 The Special Two

Ghostly grey Arinosa is the pick of the fresh horses in the Premiere Stakes.

Race 7 (4.05)

Betting: $4.80 Toydini, $5 Boban, $6.50 Streama, $7.50 Ecuador, $12 Sacred Falls

Comment: The three Waterhouse runners, Ashokan, Ecuador and Spurtonic, along with the Kiwi Veyron, look the speed horses and they could slow up in the middle stages. If he runs 1600m and if he settles I think Boban is the horse to beat. He was terrific here two weeks ago. The Walter pair, Toydini and Streama, are big hopes and I think Rekindled Interest, Sizzling and Lidari are value.

Bet: 10 Boban

Exotics: Box trifecta 4 Rekindled Interest, 6 Toydini, 9 Sizzling, 10 Boban

Race 8 (4.45)

Betting: $4.60 Arinosa, $6.50 Pinwheel, $7 She's Clean, $9 Decision Time

Comment: Tricky. Pinwheel, Arinosa and She's Clean have all trialled well and all go well fresh. They should also be suited by an expected fast tempo. Decision Time and Tiger Tees were a little disappointing in The Shorts but can improve. Hidden Warrior is value.

Bet: 13 Arinosa

Exotics: Box trifecta 2 Pinwheel, 3 Decision Time, 13 Arinosa, 14 She's Clean

Race 9 (5.25)

Betting: $3.80 Prince Cheri, $4.60 Moriarty, $6.50 Julienas, $11 Seville

Comment: Seville, second to Green Moon in last year's Turnbull Stakes, has been improved by three recent Melbourne runs and the stable rarely misses when it travels horses interstate. Moriarty looked good winning the Hill Stakes and Julienas looked good winning over 2400m at Rosehill last week. Respect Prince Cheri.

Bet: 3 Seville

Exotics: Box quinella 2 Moriarty, 3 Seville, 4 Julienas

WHO'S HOT

Although double figures in the Golden Rose, Zoustar is now the boom horse and is all the rage in the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick.

WHO'S NOT

Prince Cheri has looked the goods winning his last two starts at Rosehill, but he could be under the odds as favourite in the Group 1 The Metropolitan.

DROP A HINT

Sizzling has had a hoof problem and he's now ready to reproduce his Brisbane form. Well weighted and big value in the Epsom.

EYE CATCHER

Royal Descent has turned in eye catchers at all three recent Sydney runs and she can win the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.
