‘World’s sexiest athlete’ Alica Schmidt is back in training after lockdown

A German athlete who turns heads back on and off the running track has once again left fans in awe after returning to training.

German track star Alica Schmidt, who has been dubbed the sexiest athlete in the world, has returned to training after a month spent in coronavirus lockdown.

The 21-year-old – who had been hopeful of taking part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic prior to the COVID-19 crisis – competes in the 400m event.

Schmidt has starred at junior level for Germany after she and her teammates claimed the silver medal in the 4x400 relay at the European Athletics Under-20 Championships in 2017.

She then followed this up with a bronze in the same event in the U23 European Championship last year.

And it's not just heads she has been turning on the track, with Schmidt boasting over 718,000 Instagram followers with her fans loving her saucy snaps.

This has led Australian magazine 'Busted Coverage' to label her as the "World's Sexiest Athlete".

Speaking of her moniker, she said: "I do not know why I got this title. Sport comes clearly first.

"There are thousands of girls on Instagram who look good and still do not have as many fans makes you interesting, and that's just competitive sport for me."

And with Germany relaxing their lockdown rules, the Puma-sponsored athlete has taken to social media to express her delight at being able to get back to training.

In a post from April 19, she said: "I can finally train on the track again. The last month I did everything alone or in pairs outside.

"I am so happy to be able to train in the stadium again as usual even if nature was not that bad for the training session!"

She recently shared a picture of herself on the track, captioning the picture: "My week off (because of my wisdom tooth) is almost over now.

"I hope I can start training again on Monday. It is so strange to have so much more time now for other stuff."

Fans were loving the picture she uploaded, as one said: "Perfect blonde Angel."

Another commented: "Heal up quick! Wisdom Teeth suck! I am sure your body will not skip a beat like you never took a week off!"

A third added: "Sexiest girl on this planet."
