The Sydney family of a teenage boy who died suddenly after a health event during a soccer match have remembered him as a “kind-hearted and generous” soul.

Enzo Santiago Alves reportedly suffered a devastating stroke while playing soccer at Arncliffe Park, 11km south of Sydney’s CBD, last Sunday, according to a local soccer Facebook group.

Tributes have poured in for the beloved 14-year-old who has been described as a “loving son, a loyal friend and a joy to be around”.

It is understood that he was taken to hospital but “never recovered” from the stroke, according to posts on social media.

According to the Stroke Foundation Australia, the most common symptoms of a stroke include facial weakness, arm weakness and difficulty with speech.

However, they are not the only signs. Loss of vision or blurriness in one or both eyes, dizziness, headaches and difficulty swallowing can also indicate a more serious issue.

While strokes can occur at any age, they are more common in older adults, with about 75 per cent of strokes occurring in people aged 65 and over, according to the foundation.
