WWE icon Stone Cold Steve Austin has gone into detail on how he got his famous nickname, revealing a list of absolute clangers that almost became his moniker.

Speaking on Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast this week, the 54-year-old revealed the moment he walked into WWE and told them he wanted his nickname to be inspired by hitman and serial killer Richard “Iceman” Kuklinski.

“I told them about The Iceman name,” Austin said. “Well, there was a guy in Texas at World Class Championship Wrestling who had already been the Iceman — Iceman King Parsons — (so) we don’t want to do that. And so they sent me three pages of these horrible names: Fang McFrost, Otto Von Ruthless and Ice Dagger. And I’m thinking, ‘These guys are supposed to be creative geniuses, and this is the best (expletive) they’ve got?’”

Let’s face it — “Iceman” Steve Austin? Sorry boys, Kimi Raikkonen has that name on lock for at least another 50 years.

In an industry where a catchy name and charisma is paramount, a terribly cheesy nickname could have spelt disaster for the rising wrestler. Talent aside, there’s every chance Steve “McFrost” Austin would have faded into obscurity.

After doing the wrestling rounds as “The Ringmaster”, Austin was eventually rebranded as “Stone Cold” — reportedly inspired by a cup of tea — and from there the household name was born.

Austin revealed he went stone cold turkey on alcohol late in 2018 in an effort to improve his health.

“My eating program is going fantastic. [I’m] sticking to my exact macros. [I’ve had] zero alcohol for right at 14 days now,” he said.

“Pounds are coming off. My strength is going up. Jesus Christ, I’m getting as strong as a goddamn horse over here.”

It’s a sad day for beer drinkers everywhere with the best of the best hanging up the can.

Austin has many highlights which end with can thrown in from the wings.

Stone Cold has also started a Diamond Dallas Page’s yoga program and is already seeing benefits.

“No alcohol, and when you hit the weights on a consistent basis and eat what you’re supposed to, it is amazing the difference that you can make or I’m making,” he said.

“I’m also doing my DDP Yoga s***. Hell, I’m going to jump up here and do the splits like a goddamn cheerleader in a minute! I’m flexible as a motherf******. Dallas’ program works like a b****. I appreciate it, Dallas. I appreciate it, man. That’s a badass program. I’m sticking to it.”

It a complete swing of vices, Austin spoke about trying medical cannabis.

He said after giving up the drink, he wanted to try the drug but admitted he had never enjoyed it in the past.

“The times I had tried to smoke dope way back in the day, I didn’t like it because dope just always made me feel kind of dumb and when I’d said something, I’d think, ‘does that sound stupid or not?’

“It just brought me down, so dope never was my thing,” he said.
