A Canadian country singer is going viral after performing the sickest tradition in sport.

Artist Alli Walker on Monday horrified fans when she downed a beer from the mouth of a catfish during the Nashville Predators NHL Playoffs loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday (AEST).

The 30-year-old musician stole the show during the Predators’ defeat on their home Tennessee soil when she stepped up to fearlessly perform a fast-growing tradition at the team’s Bridgestone Arena stadium.

Videos of Walker performing the stunt, which you can watch above, have gone viral in recent days with fans left in both horror and amazement at the footage.

Walker was seen pouring a can of Budweiser down the neck of a dead catfish before pouring the soiled contents down her throat.

Walker gave an excited scream at the end of the feat as the stadium erupted in cheers.

It is hardly the first time celebrities have jumped up on stage at the stadium to sink a slimed-up can of Budweiser with Tennessee Titans star Taylor Lewan also going viral for the act in 2018.

The catfish has a long tradition with the NHL franchise, dating back as far as the 1950s, according to some reports.

The tradition began when the Detroit Red Wings had first taken up a tradition of throwing an octopus onto the ice to symbolise the fact the team needed eight playoffs wins to win the Stanley Cup at the time.

Since then the tradition of throwing a catfish onto the ice, during a Nashville home game, mostly during the pre-game entertainment, has become a semi-regular ritual.

That doesn’t mean Walker’s act is being seen as anything but disgusting.

The Canadian singer shared a video of her chug earlier this week on Instagram and acknowledged just how far the viral video has spread.

“That catfish was THIRSTY,” she wrote.

“Who woulda thunk drinkin’ beer out of a dead catfish would be so newsworthy. We kiss the cod for fun in my neck of the woods. And it just happened to go along perfect with the lyrics of my new song CREEK.”

Walker was indeed promoting her new single, which includes the lyrics: “Catch you like a catfish”.

The act even proved tough for rugby league legends when it was played on The Matty Johns Show on Fox League on Thursday.

Roosters great Brian Fletcher said: “Alli Walker who’s a country singer over there in America she went to the NHL, look at this, instead of doing the shoey, it’s a catfish, they put a beer down the guts of the catfish and they skull it.

“We should try that one!”

It’s hard to see the action catch fire like Daniel Ricciardo’s Shoey.
